70 MPH crash with no seatbelt?

If you crashed into a brick wall at 70MPH with no seatbelt on, could you survive?

If my dad is able to be in his toyota 4Runner and fall off a 600 floor cliff with jagged rocks at the bottom and total the car but still be able to go to work the next month? Yeah you would survive,If you were in a really big car thats not Kia or Hyundai.... Or Ford ( Found. On. Road. Dead. ) If you were in a Lamborghinni..... You would be able to break through the rubble and climb up the cliff and call for help.

You could survive, but your chances would be much higher if you where wearing your seat belt. Air bags do major damage when your not wearing your seat belt. Your seat belt puts your body in the proper position for the airbag to work properly. If your wearing a seat belt, you can probably walk away with just a seat belt bruise and some minor air bag burns. If you decide not to buckle up to save 4 seconds, you might live but your probably going to need to take a trip on the meat wagon and your going to be in a world of hurt.

If your really drunk, you might walk away just fine. Drunks almost never seem to get hurt in a crash, they just kill a van full of kids or a young couple with hopes n dreams.

I had two friends driving what was thought to be 90 and hit a tree without seat belts. One (the driver) died. The passenger was thrown from the car and lived with barely a scratch.

You're almost guaranteed to die without a seatbelt on because even if you miraculously were not gravely injured by flying shrapnel or not crushed by the car, you would still suffer from rhabdomyolysis resulting from a crush syndrome that you most likely sustained. However, if you are given a saline infusion of 1000-1500 ml/h, then given saline infusions alternating between 5% dextrose and saline, you have a chance of surviving renal ischemia (kidney failure).

Possibly, but it would be more chance than anything.

Friendly Stranger..
Most likely not. There have been incidents of miraculous happenings, of individuals that have survived such freak accidents, but the majority that are in these kinds of accidents do not survive. One reason is because the driver is un-restrained. When you crash into such a hard object like a brick wall for example, and you are not restrained, the likelihood of the driver going through the windshield upon impact greatly increases. Secondly, if you crash at a speed of 70 mph or more, that increases the fatality chance because of such a high force on the car itself. Basically with speed, and the fact that the driver is not restrained combined, I'd say that the chance of surviving is very slim.

it would probably depend on what you were driving, but it would be unlikely in any car. Your chances would be better an a Mercedes S class than it would in a Kia Rio, though (to use two extremes)

soccerchick
are you planning on doing it? Think about it going 70mph the come to a dead stop your chances are that you most likely wont survive

Not likely. That would be a very stupid thing to do.

usually crashes at 70 mph are fatal, especially with no seatbelt
