A Safe Way to Be In A Car Accident? Details?

I love my best friend. But she's not the best driver. It's not like she's being careless but she just doesn't have good reaction times. She's had accidents before and it makes me wonder if I'm safe with her.

So if I see the accident about to happen, What are some ways to protect myself from being hurt? Would a stiff, tense body be less likely to be hurt than a relaxed body? Is there certain types of positions (other than covering your face) that will stop from harming you? I know if you hold your seat belt at your chest, it'll keep you in place better. What other types do you have?

and I always, ALWAYS, wear my seat belt. :)

People tend to use the "Right over Left Crossing" method for turning. It's important to not do that though. Having your arms crossed while huge impact can lead to serious arm bone and ligament damage.

Well, you don't want to be stiff. Because, sorry, that won't happen. If you watch a Crash Test video on YouTube, you'll realize being stiff isn't an option. You won't have much say to where you want to go. Your muscles aren't that's strong. Being relaxed is probably better. Just put your back and head back and that will prevent huge impact with the airbag.

For rear end hits. It's always good to look in your rear view mirror while slowing down to stop. You will then be able to see if any other car(s) aren't stopping and are about to rear end you. If you see a car coming at you from behind, LET GO OF YOUR BRAKES. Don't hold your brakes. That will just create more of a mess. Let go of your brakes or speed up to go with the impact, not against.

Also, don't cover your face. That's your airbags job. You will just make more damage. If you have your hands on your face, (if your driving) you will let go of the steering wheel. If your a passenger, the airbag will hit your hands and it will hurt your hands and face. Just lean back

I hope this helps!

Tell her to be safer. Or don't ride with her. Or even give her some extra driving lessons. She could put someone else at risk too.

You can't be safe in a car accident.

Quite frankly, do not accept rides from her until he attends a performance driving school. She needs to improve her driving skills. She is careless due to lack of skills. She is not recognizing a dangerous situation soon enough to avoid the accident. Your statement "she's had accidents before" is a huge red flag. How much has it cost to repair the vehicle or vehicles?
I have a friend like this and I do not accept rides anymore. Just too dangerous. She is a VERY timid and frightened driver. Very erratic, slow in the fast lanes, and always slamming on the brakes if she sees a car at a road junction.
Luckily she has not had any accidents, but she will some day.
Thumbs up for the use of the seat belt.
