I had a Smart for two years (I loved it) the Merc dealer could have fitted a baby seat to the passenger seat but it was an all but perminant fixture, that meant that either I or my wife could not be in the car at the same time. I reluctanly sold it (Broke my heart) |

A child restraint can only be fitted in the passenger’s seat, where the airbag poses a very real threat of severe injury or death for a child. Although we did not test the restraint system, the warning to parents about this hazard was inadequate. A child can only be safe in this position if a Smart restraint is used which, when fitted, turns off the airbag. But a universal restraint will also fit: this combination would be lethal. |

No no one should allow their friend to drive a smart car, they are not cool, sorry I mean safe. Get a MINI. |

Regardless of the smart technology involved. It is always better for children to sit in the back seat for safety purposes. The smart technology in the "smart car" is primarily to adjust for the different body types and different positions of persons sitting in the passenger seat. For example a 5 ft 100 lb female will not need the same air bag deployment as a 6 ft 4 in 250 lb male. |

I had to hire a car when mine died and the hire comany wouldn't let me hire a smart car because i had a child in a car seat. |

Whilst it is legal to have a correctly fitted seat in a smart car i would nit use a seat in the front of any car. Statistically you are more likely to be hurt in the front passenger seat than any other |
