A guy on the road was tail gating me right?

I was coming home from college and I am driving on the highway at 45 miles an hour and that's the speed limit. A truck comes up behind me at 60 miles an hour expecting me to go faster but i don't go faster so the guy gets on the right lane (i am on the left) and speeds up to get in front of me. About 5 minutes later, the same guy that was tail gating me earlier starts slowing down abruptly. It's obvious that he did that on purpose. He almost stops in the middle of the road and almost causes me to get into a wreck and also hold up all of the other cars that are behind me. I am not mad about this or anything but i want to know what you think about the situation?

He was wrong to tailgate you, no matter what speed you were doing, or lane, and his actions were schoolyard conduct.

Unfortunately this "Get-Outta-My-Way-So-I-Can-
End-Up-Behind-Another-Car" mentality is what's out there.

I say good for you for maintaining your speed limit, maintaining your demeanor and taking evasive action when he acted like a schoolkid by slowing down. Happens to me sometimes; however when they pass, then get in front of me, I anticipate them slowing down "in revenge." When it's safe to do so, I get from behind them.

Next time (i hope it doesn't happen again though!) memorise the license plate and report the incident of dangerous driving/road rage to the police.

You MUST check your mirror every 8 -10 secs. while driving. If a car appears behind you and you can move right, do so!
Unfortunately, in the United States (unlike many foreign countries) the left lane isn't designated as a passing lane. It should be. That way, cars would only be in the left lane to pass another car. Otherwise, all traffic would be to the right.

There are alot of crazy drivers out there, so really no explanation for this guys actions. Next time if you are driving the limit and the right lane is clear which is evident from your statement, move to the right lane and keep the left lane clear for crazy faster moving drivers.

I think the guy is a total moron with no respect for the rules of the road. I really hate people who do that kind of thing. I have experienced it also because I am one of those weird people who does the speed limit. He should have his license revoked because he's clearly mentally unstable! The speed limit is the same no matter what lane you're in.

I think this driver is ignorant, and he should have his license revoked along with a fine. It is bad enough that we have many drivers that do not use their minds, but instead they act immature, and they cause others to be involved in needless accidents. He was wrong fro tail gating you, and he should be fined for it. You did the right thing by driving in the speed limit regardless of what the other driver was doing. This is a classic example of how many ignorant and inconsiderate drivers we have on the road. You should be glad that you are safe, even though you were in an accident. But the police should start looking out for those that tail gate because the accident could have been worse.
