I got a ticket for cross parking and i thought it was stupid but that is beside the point...but it was for 15 dollars and i thought i might just blow it off, until i read somewhere that i cannot re-register my car until i pay it off...but then a few days later an unfortunate thing happened...i hit a guy that misjudged how fast i was going and i totaled my car....so im really asking is, does it matter if i don't pay it?

That the least of your trouble pay the ticket NOW your car is a wreak the ins. will climb and your worried about 15.00. |

Yes it matters.You can be arrested for not paying a ticket,even a parking ticket.My cousin forgot to pay one in San Diego County and 6 months later the SDCSD came knocking on his door,arrested him and took him in.It was the first ticket he ever had,and it still ended up costing him $250.I am just glad I was not the officer that had to arrest him. |

Actually, it still matters. It's not just a matter of reregistering the car. It could cause you to not be able to renew your license. What typically happens is that if the final court date passes and you have still not paid the fine, a new entry shows up on your driving record as a failure to appear. (FTA) If it sits there long enough, a judge may get around to issuing a bench warrant for your arrest.
If you happened to get stopped, for any other reason, you can be arrested, on the spot. That means BIG money because you will be charged penalties for late payment of that $15 fine. This adds up to hundreds of dollars or more. Plus any associated court costs, the blot on your record and God's "thwak" to the back of your head for even thinking of blowing of a mere $15 fine. |
