A question on logic about petrol filler caps and compatibility of petrol versus diesel pump nozzles for cars?

Can someone please tell me why they don't put petrol filler caps on both sides of your car and only do it for big cars with two tanks like for example Jags & Daimlers etc.,

This is particularly annoying when you might often drive your car and your wife's car where each car has the fuel filler cap on opposite side of the car to the other!

The other day, I drove my car three times round the same bleeding Tesco station forecourt until I got the right side of the car next to the damn pump!!

TO ERR IS HUMAN DON'T THESE FLAMING CAR MANUFACTURERS REALISE THAT?!!!!

Is it to do with expense, safety, regulations, aesthetics or some other damn fool reason. If they gave it some thought, I'm quite sure they could solve the problem - if indeed, there is a problem to be solved!!!

And why I'm on the subject - why on Earth don't they make the holes in the filler caps so it is absolutely impossible to put the wrong bloody type of fuel in your vehicle's tank?!!

I must have done it two or three times in my life so far - sometimes at great expense - do you know I have even witnessed a police panda car in Hammersmith, London stranded at the BP station there, because the copper driving the car had done just that - put diesel where he should have put petrol or visa versa!!!

If you don't put to much in you can get away with it!
I have been told that if you put a little bit of petrol in with your diesel, you can stop it freezing in the winter.

However, if you put a whole tanks worth in - your f...ked to put it bluntly and it'll be time to get towed home and/or get one of those companies out that makes their living apparently, out of extracting the wrong fuel out of peoples cars because so many damn fools like myself and that copper are doing it!!!

As you may have noticed this is something of a RANT question - but I actually don't give a rats a r s e about the anally-retentive's Community Guideline diktats on rants - would someone be kind enough just to answer the two questions I have asked here please and not give me a headache about the style in which I've asked - as it will fall on deaf ears and you certainly won't get 10 points!!!!

Thankyou in advance to any kind soul who may know the answer to either of these frustrating questions and are kind enough to impart them to me!!!

First question, probably expense and the location of the gas tank, for example if the tank is on the drivers side and the filler cap was located on both sides, it would have a maze of obstacles to run through to get the filler hose to the tank. The second question would be that in most stations in the U.S. the nozzles on the pump as well as the filler holes are in fact a different size. Well at most places anyway. Hope this eases your mind a little.

Would you be willing to an extra $100-200 for this convenience. Car makers are looking for ways to reduce cost in cents per vehicle.
You want a lot, Tape an arrow under the gas Gage showing what side the filler is on.

Doing this would increase the cost of the vehicle and we don't what that....
