If you limit his speed it could just hurt him quicker......what I have done in the past is install GPS tracking devises for both commercial customers and for parents with kids.
What it does is track the speed, time and location of the vehicle and if once he is shown what he has done then you talk with him or take the keys.
Sounds a little rough but it has saved many of my commercial customers vehicle from a lot of unneeded wear and tear and it has help many of my customers with kids that need to learn the hard way..
Easy and simple to install and you don't need to wire anything else up or mess with the vehicle (ECM)... |

Well you can accomplish this in a few different ways, depending on the car you drive. If it is a newer computer controlled car, you can have the techs at the local dealership reprogram the top speed cut out. Or governor as other call it. It will actually limit the top speed of the vehicle.
On an older car, that is carbed, you can make a bracket that acts as a throttle stop only allowing the gas pedal to be pressed so far.
Another trick is to make a bracket that attaches to the gas pedal that moves the throttle cable to a longer distance from the pedal.
The last way I know of, is to get an MSD 6al system with rpm limiter, This will only allow the engine to rev as high as what you set it at.
But lets be honest the best cure, is to pull the license from your kid until he learns a little respect. If that don't work a good *** whipping never hurt anyone. |

There is one component in a car that can be adjusted to regulate it's speed. In crude terms it is often refered to as "the nut behind the wheel."
It's an old joke, but with serious intent. What you want is some kind of device that limits a car's top speed. That may be fine as far as it goes, but what speed is dangerous depends on conditons. If you find a way to limit the car's top end to 70 mph so he won't be tearing up the freeway, it won't do your son any good when it is raining, the streets are flooded, cars are skidding and aquaplaning all over the road. Your son decides to drive as fast as he would on dry roads is zooming along at 70, hits a puddle and next thing he sees is a bridge pylon heading towards his door. And the next thing YOU know is seeing him hooked up to life support in the hospital, or worse, trying to identify his mangled remains in the morgue.
Another scenario: Perhaps he likes to drive as fast as he can EVERYWHERE he goes. Just because the speed limit sign says 25 mph, his car is capable of going 50 on that narrow, curving, suburban street. The eight year old girl, just getting out of school, looks both ways and sees no cars coming, steps off the curb and here comes your irresponsible son, barreling around the corner. Who faces the girl's parents to explain how and why it happened? Your son? Maybe not. He may be lounging in a jail cell. Or will it have to be YOU?
YOU are the parent. If HE can't regulate his own speed, then he'll have to get some "readjustment" from another source. I have my OWN opinions on what that outside source SHOULD be. I leave it to you to make your own judgement. |

Take that car away. If he wants to kill himself fine, but I sure don't want him to take me or my family with him. When he has that accident be ready to give EVERYTHING you own, or will ever hope to earn, to the victims and their relatives. Now do you still want to give him your keys? |

You can put something like this into the car. The kid is caught on camera, then take the keys away. |

teach him the right way.. teach him about responsibilities... show him the dangers...
he has to learn sooner or later... be responsible for your child or worse will come.
i taught my kids.. you can also. |

a governor. they can reduce the top speed of the car and can also reduce the RPM's that he is allowed to go to. also if they accelerate too hard it will back down the engine power.
but i dont like these because some times you need to floor it like when you are merging into the highway. but that is just me |

What's the big deal? Young people drive fast. If he's a good driver, let him drive as fast as he wants.
If he's going 20-30 miles over the speed limit, then he does need to slow down. But if he's only going 10-15 miles over the speed limit, then that's nothing to be concern about. A lot of people go 10-15 miles over the limit anyway. |

well only thing they do is limit the top speed with a governor, some old vehicles don't have one, but it wouldn't help because he could still go interstate speeds in a 25 mph zone, the car can't tell what speed limit zone its in, nothing you can really do to the car, anything you do to a car it only stops the overall top speed not the top speed in a certain speed zone, you can only do something to your son, ground him from driving until he realizes the danger, and trust me he's going to lie after a day or 2 saying he knows now just so he can drive again, make him not drive for a good 2 weeks or more not even on the weekends and say that you have eyes watching you so if he tries to drive a friends car then you'll sell his car and not let him drive at all until he's 18 |
