It seems to happen after highway driving and I'm back local. The brakes are clearly still gripping. It is a stick shift car and when I'm going between stop signs with the clutch disengaged, I can feel the brakes slowing the car. Additionally, when stopped after, I can smell around the tires and tell that the brakes have been heavily used. At the same time this happens, as can be expected the power steering gets stiff. I have flush/filled the brake fluid in the front two lines, but not all four. If needed I can flush all of them. Any advice on where to look?

have your brakes inspected, most places will do it for free. after they look at it they'll tell you what's going on and give you a quote, if you can fix it yourself fix it yourself, if you can't then at least you now know what you'll need to have done to fix it, or how much it will cost. |

look at your calipers they are most likely hanging up on the rotors might be a bad caliper piston have you noticed any brake fluid loss |

Sounds like a frozen brake calliper. Take it to the shop and have them look at it. Or replace it yourself, it's not too difficult if you understand how brakes work. Also, check your emergency brake. It may be stuck or maybe your emergency brake needs adjusted. |

What is going on is that the brake caliper is sticking causing the pads to stay engaged and this is what you are smelling.
If one caliper is bad make sure that they replace both of them as a pair because the other one will go out, also have the rotors machined and the pads replaced as well. |
