All season tires versus Winter tires?

I bought a new car and it came with four-seasons tires. Should I get Winter tires? Are the Winter tires much better?
And yes, it does snow a lot in my state.

Four season tires aren't very good in the snow and they also lose a lot of grip when the temperature gets really cold, even if the pavement is dry.
Get 4 snow tires, you will not regret it.
BTW Tsunami is perfectly wrong. There is such a thing as snow tires. They are indentified with a snowflake symbol on the sidewall and their thread is made with much softer compounds than other tires. As a result of this they retain traction even in very low temperatures, but also wear out much faster when used in warm weather. |

There is a such thing as winter tires, despite other answerers comments here, though they are called snow tires.

I guess it depends on your confidence level driving in the snow, and if your new car is 4 wheel drive, front wheel drive, or rear wheel drive. I have a 4x4 with all season tires, and I did fine last winter. I live in Maine and we had a total of about 6 feet or more of snow last year. |

Winter tires are not like All-Season tires. Winter tires have special rubber compounds designed to improve traction, handling and braking in all cold weather conditions, not just ice and snow.
Winter Tires are designed to deliver safety and control in snow, ice, and cold weather conditions.
Many people think that all-season tires can deliver this same performance, but this is not true.
The superior traction that winter tires deliver, as much as a 25 to 50 percent increase over all-season tires, can very well be the margin you need to stop in time or turn to avoid trouble. |

winter tires preform better in snow and water.
all season tires work well in all weather conditions.
i think you should get a set of winter tires because u said i snows a lot but the all season ones will probably work just fine |

the all season tires will work for winter. you're good to go, don't worry. just to reassure yourself, look on the tires sidewall and you should see a "M+S" which means mud and snow capable. |

yeah especially if u have a rwd car if not just get chains u got all season tires keep them if they have good thread if they dont get other tires ( fwd cars are pretty good in the snow) |

now days the tires you buy for all seasons is good enough. there is no such thing as winer tires unless you live where there are chains needed and then you buy chains. back in the old days you used snow tires persay but now they are not such things. |
