What do I do when the person who has the right of way just stops for no reason? For example, the other day I was heading east getting ready to make a left turn, and another driver was heading west getting ready to make a right turn. The right turn has priority, so I was waiting for him to go, but he just sat there. Again today I was going east on a road that intersected into another street to form a 'T' intersection, right and left turns being my only options, and I was waiting for a chance to make a left turn. Then another driver going north stops to make a left turn going west, but just turns his blinker on and sits there. From my understanding, in both of these cases the other driver had the right-of-way, so if I were to make the turn and get into an accident it would be my fault.so in both cases I just sat there.
What do I do when the driver with the right-of-way stops and does nothing for no apparent reason? Is there an official indication of some sort that signifies that right-of-way has been given up by one driver and passed to the next in line? What should I do when this happens?

Just pay extra attention and go if they don't seem particularly interested in doing it correctly. I just wave them on and if they don't go, then I do. You could also honk a little or flash your lights at them to wake them up, but don't count on it working. Are you in a large truck? Sometimes people get intimidated by large vehicles and don't go when they should. Just be extra careful; that's all I can say. |

Be cautious. I've been in a situation like this where I actually went out at the same time the person went out, but that person said he went out first, so I got cited. The Cop that cited me told me, the reason I got cited was because there was one other witness who witnessed him going out first. So I'll say if an accident happened, the cops would investigate, if their are no witnesses there on your behave you may get cited.
And if that person did actually have the right away, and you hit the car, you gonna get cited, because you are always suppose to be cautious. Doesn't matter if he/she stopped or not, they can't estimate time. But like i said, only if you have witnesses on your be-have will you be in the right. |
