Any tips on calming my nerves while driving?!?!?

I just got my license a couple days ago and I am a nervous wreck! I know I can drive but when I get behind the wheel I get very nervous and it feels like I'm going to mess up.

chew gum, or do something that requires your "nervous" energy so that it's not coming out while you are driving. I still get nervous when I drive, but now it's more of a "road rage". I try to do things that take that extra energy out of my. I also have a manual transmission car, not by choice thats what I father bought me and I just still have it. That is a good and bad thing, I hate when people slow down and I have to down shift, but it also keep my busy when I am bored.
In your spare time you can also just go out driving, aimlessly, with no destination. That way you get a few more driving hours under your belt. I would do this alone as well, if you are able. That way you will get a little more self confidence for driving. |

Take it easy. Go on very short trips at first. Don't try to get out on busy streets and highways at first. Start out simple, gain confidence, and then move up to busy streets later. You are probably trying to do too much too soon. |

Drive defensively and remain vigilant. Soon you'll get more comfortable over time. It takes around 3 years to get as good as everybody else. Until then, only expose yourself to situations on the road you're comfortable with. Take longer routes if it means less stress for you. Good luck! |

Drive slowly on side streets until you become more comfortable. |

It might be a good idea to keep another driver in the car with you for a while, at least until you gain in confidence. They can be your extra set of eyes and just be there to help out. |

JUST DO IT!! Your not going to "mess up" any worse than the rest of us. It's pretty much a free for all anyway. |
