Anybody else driven mad by the size of british parking spaces!!?

Macky
Some of us have no problems getting big things in small places
LOL

lovelylexie
It's not so much the size of the spaces but rather some drivers' inability to park within the lines - when one person parks badly, it knocks all the other cars out of line.
Another gripe is people parking where there blatantly is not a space, blocking other drivers in or making it difficult to manouevre around the car park. It's a bug bear of mine!!!

MICK B
As Im a fairly competent driver and can usually fit into a given space provided the pillock in the next bay hasnt parked over the white line. No I dont give them a second thought

Alicat
Yes me, and why don't they do them at an angle so people don't bang your car with their doors?

And to barking mad a few answers below.... you go in forwards so you can put your shopping in the boot easier!

Not really. I've never found a space that too small for an average size car. Those with 'Chelsea Tractors' don't really deserve any sympathy.
In case you hadn't noticed, we live on a small and very overcrowded island. There just isn't enough room for the luxury of big cars and big parking spaces. Kilmar please note!

The problem is with people who can't park properly.
It helps immensely if you reverse in rather than nose in. Much less shunting involved.

i don,t really have a problem parking it getting the kids out of the car that the problem comes and the poor person next to me i do like to keep my car really dirty in winter if they brush down my car they get really dirty.

depends what you're trying to get into them. Try going to a bit of spare land set out some cones and practise with your car getting it in and out of a parking spot from different angles. This way you'll increase your spatial awareness of the car you drive and with enough practise parking will become alot easier.

Regarding the answer thatmadla gave and the bit about parent and child spaces - I get really really annoyed when people park in the "disabled only spaces" again because they are so close to the shop especially when it is raining. Even worse, our Asda store has six disabled spaces just in front of the cash machines
and of course all the non-disabled park there - even if it is just for a minute it stops a disabled person being able to use it!!!!!!!

The rust on my Land Rover will jump 6', everyone leave a good gap around me.
Paint so it look like it has scraped paint off lots of different cars.

I have driven all sorts of vehicles including a land rover (not the Chelsea tractor type more the 22year old don't give a damn what happens to it work horse type) and have never had a problem getting into or out of a parking space unless someone else has parked over the line it is simply a case of if you have a licence then you have no excuse to not be able to park your car in a reasonable sized space

They are a bit tight aren't they! FIne when its just me but when I have to get my son out of his car seat without crushing him or banging the car next to me it really irritaes me!

Thats why I get mad at people using the parent and baby spaces when they don't need to. In fact I would rather they weren't at the front of the shops then people wouldn't park in them!

yeh , ok if u gotta smart car , no good with anything bigger

damian
far too small.

Bardic
It's not the spaces shrinking, it's the cars growing! Plus, more importantly, very few seem to know how to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

Personally, I'd rather have people park nose-in, if it avoids what happened to me when a daft old bat tried to force her trolley between my car and hers to get to the boot. Cost her quite a bit to have the side my my car repaired!

lucyjake3
oh yeah they are way too small especially when my husband insists on buying big cars all the time

we have a Peugeot 405 est but before that we had a Volvo 940 est (we have 2 dogs tho) and our 3 year old son.

I thought this was a womens problem. And why do women always drive in front first, instead of reversing in, then they cannot get out.

the size of the ordinary spaces dont make me mad it is the fact that the parent and child spaces ore right in front of the shops too these people are not disabled they can still walk long distances they dont need to be right in front of the shop if they were located at the far end of the supermarket car park then people without children would not have any need to steal these spaces they would only be used by people with children then

westhighland
This is why I love used cars. Once you get that first scratch or ding because some buckwheat wasn't being careful , I hate feeling postal. Probably good for certain business. ( paint and body shops, courts, weight loss industry ) Maybe it's big brother saying to get a smaller car or the cost of land needs to be compinsated for. Good luck with the madness.

Yes

They'r fine , provided you dont want to actually get out of your car once you'v parked between 2 others !!

richiesown
They're minimum for more cash returns and I always back in as trying to back out is hellish at supermarkets etc the actual roadways are so narrow your front wing is in danger of clipping the car next to you trying to back out.

yep they're shrinking.
if it's not the Hospitals making them smaller 2 make more money,
it's the local council down the Town Centre.
IT'S ALL DOWN 2 MONEY, MORE CARS MORE REVENUE.
