Yes I know its the law about speed limits etc but I reckon theres a number of roads that seem to have both a too high meaning it can be unsafe to go at even half that limit and some with a too low speed limit such as a lot of 30 limits that you could safely do 40 or even 50? or a lot of the m-ways that you could even do up2 90-100mph safely (mainly when it isnt rush hour or such as in the dead of the nyt etc)

Speed limits on all UK motorways should be abolished completely.

Have a look at the German Autobahns. Safest roads in the world and no speed limits. There's the evidence.

Friendly Stranger..
I know what you mean. There are open country roads that have a limit of 55 or 65 and the roads should be traveled at a less speed. I actually have traveled back roads where the speed limit was 40 mph and it should have been 30. My whole point is, there are many roads throughout the U.S. and abroad where the speed limits tend to be false. What I mean is, when the limit is one thing, it really should be another so that drivers can maneuver safely. Having speed limits too high or too low for conditions actually does more harm because once drivers realize how fast they can really go and maintain their safety they will likely increase their speed rather than abide by the law which causes more accidents.

In my area there are plenty of places where the speed limit could safely be raised 10 or more mph - but then how would the city and the police department make any money if they couldn't stop people for speeding? LOL.

I really can't think of any place near me where the speed limit is too high. Most of the speed limits around me were set in the 1970s and 1980s and cars today are so much more advanced in terms of handling and braking ability as compared to then that it feels like I'm crawling on most roads if I'm following the speed limit exactly. I assume most people in my area feel the same way since I'd estimate at least 90% of drivers in my area drive 5mph+ over the speed limit on any road I can think of.

There is this one road next to me with a speed limit of 50 mph. The road is very bumpy and it has sharp curves every ten feet. That speed limit could easily be 30 mph. I like the road though because it's fun to drive on, especially with my mustang. When I take a family car down that road, I have to take the curves slower because they don't turn as good.

A lot of roads I think the speed limit can be raised on. I think all roads out in the country where I live the speed limit should be raised on. Hardly anyone travels down those roads and it would be safe to raise the speed limits on them. A lot of interstates not during rush hour could be raised to a 100 mph as well. The only problem with that would be a lot of foreign cars getting run over.

Honestly I've never been where it was too high. Now I think the one area in the City I live in where it drops to 25 is low, I think 35 would be fine.

I live in the Central Canadian plains and the paved roads here run for miles with no curves and no hills. Our speed limit is 110 KPH (68 MPH) and it is boring as H3LL. We commute to town 40 miles away and rush hour is if you meet more than 5 cars along the way. Add to that the fact that these roads are lightly travelled even on Holiday weekends and you have the perfect mix for the likes of me. If there are no deer on the roads I can easily make town in 30 minutes or less and my average speed on longer trips is in the range of 85-90 MPH. If I had a more sporting automobile I would probably bump that up a bit but my current car is more than capable below a 100MPH.

one near me with a 40 limit thats not safe to do 20 on ! and a really wide straight one that is a 20 limit . strange...

Plenty of our country roads here in Cornwall should be reduced to 50 mph.
