You can never rely on what an automobile insurance company says about motorcycle safety -- since in an automobile-motorcycle accident it is usually the automobile driver's fault and the automobile insurance company that pays, the automobile insurance companies will distort facts in order to try to reduce the number of motorcyclists (targets).
The latest reliable figures I could find were for 2005, and state:
"3,201 people were killed on Britain's roads in 2005, 1 per cent less than in 2004. ... Total casualties in 2005 were 271,017, 3 percent fewer than in 2004;"
"In 2005, the number of casualties among motorcycle users fell by 3 percent compared with 2004 and the number of deaths fell by 3 per cent to 569."
British roads are safer, with motorcyclists leading automobilists in the improvement. |

YES, YES, YES, british roads ARE more dangerous now more bikes are on them.
Of course it would help if the roads were more than 18 feet wide.
AND, if you could drive on the RIGHT side!

They are dangerous because most road users think they own the road. If i wanted to talk a walk down my local high street i would be well within my rights to do so but i would probably get mowed down by some selfish motorist. Saying that cyclists don't need a license to ride on the road which should be changed |

They are not dangerous, it's just cyclists don't know basic highway code e.g. jump red lights and pull out of junctions from side roads onto main roads without giving away first. |

Jan 29, 2008 – According to motor insurer yesinsurance.co.uk, the latest Department for Transport (DoT) figures show that road accidents kill almost half as many motorcycle riders as car drivers and passengers, even though motorcycles account for less than 4% of vehicles on Britain’s roads.
yesinsurance.co.uk (http://www.yesinsurance.co.uk/ ) state that whilst fatality rates for all other types of transport have dropped considerably over the past 25 years, the risk level for motorcycles has remained relatively stable. |
