Are buses safe on our roads?

As a commercial driver Im trained to anticipate what cars may do..I receive over 50hrs each year in training and my license is scrutinized by my company and the state that I live in..My job unlike yours also effects my personal cars..what ever I do wrong in the commercial vehicle is reflected on my personal insurance..Knowing that cars cause 75% of all vehicular accidents in the Us and are at fault 78% of the time when involved with a commercial vehicle and the average commercial driver experiences 1,000,000 miles in 15 year period I would say ur safety and concern still lies with the car that's next to you..

If instructions in the Highway code make you confused then you are dangerous and need to have some more lessons even if you have passed your test. Maybe do an advanced driving course to improve your skills.

nearly all us bus drivers are very good , its just you idiots that cant see further than the end of you bonnet .and what do YOU drive mr perfect Nils ? your not a moron are you ? no of course not.

The highway code has no legal backup so it's just a training manual. There is no requirement to give way to buses. You can ignore the signs on the back of the bus. The Higway code is wrong on this.

Let your common sense rule, not some office based pen-pusher.

First off, consider just how many buses there are in Britain. There are at least hundreds in every populated area of any decent size. Now lets consider that just two of those buses have crashed. People focus on those two, and not the many thousands across the country that haven't because their driver isn't bad at driving. I don't think it's worth being worried about.

However, if we start getting lots of regular fatal accidents, say, one a month, then we can start asking if buses are unsafe.

On the whole bus drivers are very well trained, but they are still prone to mistakes the same as the rest of you, ha, if you see a bus indicating to pull out and you are safe to stop after checking your mirror and all around you, then let the bus out, if he is not indicating then you have the right of way, they pull out and deal with various problems constantly all day, they will be watching you approach, and are used to reading whats going on around them, don,t be scared at all otherwise you will never leave your house and as most accidents happen apparently in the the home, its better to be out.

I agree with the first answer, the buses are sound it's just that a lot of them are driven by morons.

Maybe the bus drivers need refresher courses?
