Are cars bad for the environment?

For the most part yes. The problem with cars is that they release harmful toxins into the atmosphere. The chemiclas in the car that is released from the exhaust causes damage to the ozone layer. It is hazardous to our environment because the chemicals cause more of a problem for plants such as tress, animals, and even humans. The air is becoming more polluted beacuse of the car itself. That is why there is such a push to "go green" all of a sudden. This problem has been goign on for years but its become worse. Now car companies are introducing more hybrid vehicles and I heard that in Hawaii they are introducing electric cars. Either way cars have become a problem but solutions are being introduced to help save our environment.

The US is the world leader for numbers of cars in a country and unfortunately all of the CO2 being expelled by those cars is contributing to the global warming effects we are all noticing.

Currently it is believed that reversing what we have done is impossible.

Newer cars are better for the environment, as they're putting out less emissions, and typically getting better mileage. However, the number of cars on the road is a big factor.

vrrJT3, climate change is caused by the sun? What are you smoking? Through the planet's evolution, there were numerous changes in the atmosphere, which led to numerous changes in climate. Why is Venus so hot? Not "because of the sun," but because it has a VERY dense atmosphere and traps the IR radiation. At this point in time, we don't know what is causing global warming. It could be a natural cycle. We could be responsible for it. Another possibility is that it's a natural cycle, and we're contributing to it, making it worse.

I don't think so, as long as they are managed appropriately. If we recycle tires and oil properly, then the impact is minimal.

The alternative is horse and buggy. I personally think loads of horsepoop all over the highway and stepping in it every day, tracking it into your house on your shoe would be a much bigger problem.

Besides, since when did a horse and buggy have heat, A/C, not have to stop for a drink, and go 65 MPH for 400 miles. Our car can drive longer than your kid can hold his bladder.

If you were talking CO2 and global warming, it's time to examine the real science. CO2 follows temperature. It does not cause climate change. That's caused by the sun.

A necessary evil, yes they are bad. All of them even electric cars, as is every thing else we use, all we can do is try and be responsible with are usage.
