Are cats safe on car rides?

I love bringing my kitty with me in the car when I run around town. Is that safe for cats? I know it's not for my chinchilla's, with them being so fragile. So, I'm just making sure it's an ok idea to bring my cat around with me.

Cats have very sensitive inner-ears (where their incredible sense of balance comes from), so try to avoid any G-Forces, like sharp turns at high speed, rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration. This might hurt your cat's ability to balance, or even to walk in a straight line.

Bear in mind that if you get in an accident, your cat, if not in a kitty-carrier, will go flying. If it's a bad accident that injures you, your cat will be GRIEVOUSLY injured, or perhaps even die.

Just be careful, is all I'm saying.

Depends where the moggy is in the car. Bearing in mind if it's in the wrong place if you have an accident it becomes a 10lb missile.

Sure they are. My Rascal has traveled across the United States with me several times and has never had a problem, yet. He had one accident, because I stayed out too late and he had to go and so he went in the car. Yuck!

When we travel long distance I have a disposable litter box in the car on the floor and when he needs to go, there it is. We have no trouble and he loves the car.

Happy trails!

I drove half way across Canada with my cat perched under the hatchback on top of our luggage. The only problem was that she only had one toilet break during the whole trip and that was on the luggage too.

i raised a kitten to ride with me. he was even with me when we got clipped and the car nearly rolled over, we ended up almost crashing into a gas pump after sliding across an intersection, over a curb, and into the station where people ran for their lives...after all this he came out from under the seat no worse for wear....i ended up taking him with me for a 12 mo. road trip up and down and all around california and the southwest. he road on the dashboard most always. he loved it and even would jump into the van window on command to the amazement of people everywhere..

Our cats road with us on 2 very very long trips and they did just fine. We were constantly driving, not sitting in a parking lot at the grocery store, however the cats never ate or drank water while driving which concerned us. They also preferred laying on the floor up front or under the front seats for some reason, just have to keep them from going under the brake pedal.

its okay but they well get tramized sometimes cuz cats dont like car rides i think u shouldnt bring a lil kitty in a big car .... only if its nesscary

Donna
Should be ok on the seat or in the back, but not in the engine compartment, like one cat reported in the paper, even though he actually survived a 50 mile journey!

As long as the cat stays in the car and doesn't sneak out and get hit by another car. Also, just like dogs and children, on a hot day, the heat in the car would not be good for them.
