Are platform shoes dangerous while driving?
Find answers to your legal question.

Are platform shoes dangerous while driving?

I can drive safely in platforms without noticing but some say they hinder braking and could cause injury to wearers.

I have driven many times in platforms..and I have to say..that it makes feeling where the pedals are very hard. I usually take mine off while driving...

lisaero
It can be quite dangerous, I personally don't feel safe driving in heels as I find it's easier for your foot to slip of the pedals!

'Rickaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I think you know the shoes you feel comfortable to drive in and those are the safest!
I've nearly crashed wearing flip flops before as one got stuck under the accelerator pedal when i needed to break so now I only wear the shoes I feel most comfortable in.
Also remember it's against the law to have bare feet when driving.

I can drive safely in any type of footwear. If you are a safe driver and are confident with your abilities there is no reason why the type of footwear you chose should hinder any manoeuvre.

DispatchGirl
I have never had a problem driving in them, I usually take them off in bad weather though, because I heard the same thing I don't want to find out.

platform shoes are easy to wear, so it is better to take them off and before you get out of the car, just put them back on and you can even gain the experience of feeling how you are driving when you are using you feet on the pedal than when you are wearing something and they are bad for driving cos of the heels basically

guiltysprincess
that is bad dont do platforms

enzuigiriuk
You shouldnt wear any shoes that impede your ability to feel / use the pedals safely and quickly in the event of an emergency.

In addition should you be in an accident it is possible that the shoes would get wedged under the pedals causing injury / trapping.

If I were you I would have a pair of safe driving shoes in the car so you can change into your nice shoes at your destination.

depends on the driver and on the car.
Some of the smaller cars actually have the pedals so close together that you can't push just one pedal when you're shoes are too wide
If you drive a huge SUV i don't see any problem

kierstin b
yes they are

yes they can be

it depends if the wheels are wide enough to give you more stability when cornering. i prefer trainers with dunlop all weather tyres, and a lasoo for braking, on convenient bystanders!

Flat shoes are the best. Anything that could hinder access to the pedals is best avoided.

Boris
As long as you can use the pedals properly.

sweetleaf
if you are a lady its not dangerous cause no matter what shoe u wear, you all still drive slow. hee hee hee.

They're impractical. Plus, if you were in an accident, the firm soles, blocky soles could contribute towards impaction up your legs, meaning the bones shatter.

Drive without them.

Basically any shoes with thick or hard soles will hinder your ability to control the pedals accurately. Also heavy shoes will hinder your ability to move your feet really quickly in an emergency.

Notice the shoes that racing drivers wear - they are little more than tightly-fitting slippers with grippy soles, to give them maximum control and pedal feel, with minimal weight for fast reactions.

If you drive like an old granny, or like a welly-wearing farmer in a tractor, you probably don't actually drive well enough to notice the difference between driving in platforms and driving in normal shoes. If you drive like a normal person, then you should really have more control of the pedals than platforms will allow. If you drive quickly, then you need something much lighter.

No one who is proud of their driving would consider driving in platforms.

you tend to exagerate your braking, your platforms might block your foot to get to the brake pedals. yes, it's dangerous.

I would like to know why platform shoes came back into style in the first place along with bell bottom pants and all of that other garbage. There is a reason why it went out of style 30 yrs. ago in the first place fools....cause they LOOK RIDICULOUS!!!! Oh yea...and there unsafe as a mo fo to drive in!!!

Just a Guy
You say you can drive safely in them , so you have answered your own question.

YOU THINK you can drive safely in them. What about the one time you have to do an emergency stop and your foot slips off and lands on the accelerator and you kill the child crossing the road.

I hope you can live with that.

tamah
yes its dangerous

You could twist your ankle if you hit the pedal wrong. I would be more concerned with you not being able to hit the brake at all when you have to.

What do you think?! It's not Disco Time!!

I dont feel that you have the manouverability in them - its your choice, but you will have to live with it, should KILL someone!
