Are second hand tyres bad to use?

This is going to depend on where you buy them from and how old they are when you by them. It isprobaly ok to buy one as a spare but I would not want to run them constantly.

There is another option, saves money for new tires. And that is factory take offs. Say dude X wants new car with custom wheels and tires, he goes out and pays for them. He doesn't want the tires that came with the car, so the installer sells the tire for cheap.

Seen tires come off cars that only had 25 miles on the odometer.

When you buy a used car, do you immediately replace the tyres that are already on it if they have 3/4 of the original tread left? Of course you don't. Do you get them removed, inspected, refitted and balanced by a qualified tyre fitter? No.

So why would you be unhappy using part worn tyres that have been inspected and fitted by a professional fitter?

I'd be far happier on a part worn Michelin, than a brand new Shinko.

do not buy them....his advice is based on his personal gain he stands to make....which is a conflict of interest. who knows, maybe the tyres will last you for five years with no trouble, but, when it comes to tires, why chance.....

would you buy a 2nd hand battery for a smoke detector?
would you buy a 2nd hand parachute?
would you buy a 2nd hand pacemake?

you may be able to buy them off a wrecked car with 3/4 tread but otherwise no one changes tires with that much tread

You wouldn't eat 3/4 of a left over steak.... and the use of used tires is not the best idea.... the few dollars you save will
not offset the problems you are buying for yourself when you have a blow-out or flat.... Safety is a big issue here and it is worth the extra 10 or 20 $ per tyre/tire to have peace of mind

Your life may depend on your tires at some point. Do you want used tires on your car? Especially if your child is riding with you? I didn't think so. Get the new ones.

Let us call these tires "used" instead of second hand.

Now consider, if you were driving a new set of tires long enough and, at some point, still had 3/4 of the original tread left. Would these tires be any less inherently dangerous than tires bought with the exact same amount of tread?

What makes a tire NOT safe is a series of factors, only ONE of which is tread depth. Cuts and bruises to the SIDE of the tire is another. If you have EVER scuffed your own tires against a concrete curb or berm, you may be driving on dangerous tires.

If you can trust that the seller has inspected the used tires tread and sidewalls, AND that he will warrantee the tires to be in a good safe condition, then there is nothing wrong with buying used ones. Just be aware that they will not last as long as new ones, and you will have to keep an eye on their condition.

The "guy thing" is BS because guys will believe practically anything another guy tells them. If a piece of misinformation gets around far enough, a "guy" will accept it as gospel.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to buy them from a reputable dealer that also sells new tires. He will not risk losing his license by selling dangerous equipment.

Why would you want to do that? You can buy brand-new tires for as little as $50 each. Isn't your life worth a least $200?
