Are the parents to blame?
Find answers to your legal question.

Are the parents to blame?

There was a bad accident that killed a 14 year old cheerleader over the weekend in Saint Petersburg Florida. The driver was a 15 year old that only had a permit which states he must have a legal licensed driver in the passengers seat and his mother allowed him to drive alone knowing the law. He crashed and killed another child in the vehicle with him. Should his mother who is an adult and knows better be held accountable?
Additional Details
The mother give him permission to illegally drive knowing it was against the law. He is a mionr and should not have his life screwed up because an adult told him it was okay to break the law. They should be accountable.

The parents are to blame. The 15 year-old did know better but chose not to because his mom's decision took the responsibility off of his shoulders.

The mom is morally and legally liable and should be made to answer for her decision.

The 15 year-old son is morally liable and should be required by the court to participate in a community service project (with his mom) to help educate other parents about the devastation of other people's lives when these decisions are made.

His mother will be sued and will probably lose everything.

I feel so sorry for the 14 year-old cheerleader's family.

The parent will be held accountable. That is the law. Whether anything comes of it, that is another quesiton.

That is a very sad story. Its a hard question to answer. I guess if she really knew then she should get in some kind of trouble like contributing to the dilequency of a minor. Maybe have child services see if she is fit to be a mom. But, I don't think she should get charged with manslaughter.

This is harder than it looks?

I bet it would be a long trial.... but I think that the parent would be held accountable.

If his mother knew he was going to drive and allowed it she should be charged the same as if she were driving the car. In some places she would be charged but I don't know about the law in Florida.

If the mother allowed it to happen, I believe she's looking at a world of hurt - which she deserves.

he knew the law too--him and his mom should do jail time. 15 knows right from wrong--they should be whipped--what idiots

i say the parent is aswell, but not completley, he should know the dangers of that, a car crash killed a boy mmike on diamond bar blvd and the teen (with a liscence) who was the driver is a friend of mine he i in thhe hospital, and the family of mike are pressing charges against the driver and his family, hiis little brother goes to my school, he's 11 and he seems really shoken up about it

If she knew and allowed him to drive she probably will be held accountable. What about the 14 yr olds parents did they know she was riding with a non licensed driver? If they did and they allowed her to ride with the 15 yr old anyway then both sets of parents are responsible. However both of the teens knew better also. Whose fault was the accident?
It is very sad. My prayers go out to all involved.

Both should be liable to some degree.

He broke the law however he is a minor child therefore the parent should bear responsibility.

I would need to know the details. How sad.

The kid was fifteen and mom let him drive knowing the law. If she isn't responsible, what's the point of the law?
