Are women drivers any good?

Some are good, and some are bad -just like any other group you want to put people in. My theory is that a person's personality will truthfully come out in the way a person drives. So depending upon the type of personality someone has will theoretically determine whether they will be a good, average, or even a bad driver IMO and from my 20+ years of driving experience.

2 of the 3 worst drivers I know are women but most of the really safe drivers I know are women so read into that what you like!

By the way, I am in the list of the 3 worst drivers I know at second!

Women drive more carefully and conscienciously. Men just drive to blast their way around with no regard for other road users. They call that good driving! Break it down and you will see that their road positioning is pathetic and their anticipation is virtually non-existant.

Women care, men don't.

I have asked myself this same question every time I leave the house. I myself believe I am a good driver, but I was also taught by my overly aggressive father, so who knows. I do seem to thank to myself everytime I am cut off by a dam woman on a cell phone, or putting on make-up, or just in a daze, what the hell are you doing, dam women drivers......But I am one, and just think I am even driving emergency vehicles, scary huh, anyways. I think some of us are good and some are just ditsy and need to let their husbands drive..........

think about the average woman driver, she goes to work and takes the kids to school, she has to drive with the kids fighting/talking/throwing things, she then has to find a parking space near the school and fit her car into it, she gets the kids into school and sets off to work, or maybe some shopping in town, were she has to negotiate bus routes, van drivers and ignorant pedestrians, and again fit the car into a parking space the size of a postage stamp.
whereas a man drives to work and parks in the company car park, and his car is empty cos it's HIS car, he won't share it with the guy next door or a neighbour who works close to him. the only time men face a challenge driving is when it's thier job, ie delivery drivers, cabbies etc.
so yes i think women are better in general than men when it comes to driving.

I am sorry to say but YES most woman drivers are bad , i drive for a living and for example i was driving down a slip road today in this weather as well! and a car was heading right for me it was of course a woman driving, oh i forgot to mention this was a one way road ! "I WAS GOING DOWN THE RIGHT WAY"

i answered a question some weeks ago of yours and i got best answer about the older man..... so here i would say as a woman i believe we are good drivers but then again im not bothered either way..i support blokes when needed.... your and idiot if you drink, do drugs or have a short temper behind a wheel... wether it be man or woman so i dont think women are bad drivers as there are just as many men on the roads who are just as bad..........and i looked at your link and it didnt open but strangely i got a message off my virus program shortly after???

I think this says it all - I've been driving for 23 years, and never made an insurance claim, touch wood. Boyfriend borrowed my car in August, guess what, reversed into a stationary car (driven by a woman!), whilst trying to nip into a driving space! What would you say!? Believe this is why Women Only insurance companies are springing up - women are safer drivers (in general) - Sorry guys!

No truth at all - isn't this country all about equality? Not to brag, but I'm a woman and probably the best driver I know - my friends will even let me drive their cars when we go out b/c they know I can handle it better than they can!

I passed my driving test in 1968 and have driven countless miles since...more than I care to remember...even done it for a living, and I have NEVER had an accident....and I most certainly do not drive timidly, slowly or inconsiderately....I just keep my eyes on the road ahead and make sure I am aware of what is going on around me at all times....that means treating every one else on the roads as a total idiot, and driving so as to compensate for any mistakes they may make....it's called forward planning!

Having said that, I have seen some women do some pretty stupid things....but on the other hand, insurance companies say that women are the better drivers as they have less accidents...and I have seen some men do some really stupid things as well, so I guess it comes down to being six of one and half a dozen of the other!

Women actually are better drivers than men.
They have fewer accidents, are more considerate and take fewer risks.
Men are 'macho' and consider it 'natural' to drive.

Women are either very good or very bad - men are average.

I, a WOMAN, have driven for a living for 4 years and have never had an accident. Nor do I use my mobile phone whilst driving - the main culprits of that crime are MEN. As are tailgaters.

In my experience, the worst drivers are either very old (they drive too slowly) or very young (they drive like lunatics and don't care a monkeys about anyone else on the road). I am not saying that ALL old/young drivers are bad - not at all - but statistically, more 'bad' drivers fall into these categories.

One final point - women get cheaper car insurance, as statistics prove that they have fewer accidents. There's your answer.

As I always say women have less accidents than men - but they see a hell of a lot more.

i have said this before but it bears repeating men fall into 3 types of driver excellent 10% average 70% poor 20% with 95% believing they are in the top 10% of drivers .Women differ slightly in that there are only 2 types of driver excellent or poor with nothing in.between with the majority being lower risk than their male counter parts. If you don't believe me look at the number of extra insurance discounts and women only insurance policies there are. Remember Insurance rate is set from perceived risks .

Well lets put it this way, my mother taught me to drive.
I have had only two traffic accidents in my life, one I was hit broadside by a driver that didn't think he had to stop for flares in an intersection where the traffic lights were out, and the other one I had just bought a used car and the tires were bald, so I could not stop fast enough when the traffic on the free way slammed to a stop, (my fault for not buying tires 1st thing).
I have taught my daughter to drive and I will put her driving up against the driving ability of anyone I know including the local cops who fail to follow the rules of the road and turned illegally (almost causing an accident by not turning into the left lane from a left lane, my daughter followed my training and checked the right lane for clearance as she signaled and started to change lanes) when I was training her to drive. Our next stop was the local Police Department and filling a complaint with the chief who I have known for years, the officer got a reprimand out of it and doesn't like me to this day and that has been 7 years.

Woman drivers have fewer accidents - hence the insurance companies which insure only women...

Does that mean they're better drivers (more skilled)? Or just more careful - I think the latter.

I've been driving for over 15 years, have never had a point on my licence, never been stopped for speeding and had my last accident about 12 years ago (someone drove into the side of my car) ........ I don't drive slowly, hog lanes, I always say thanks to people who give way to me and I often give way to other people. I don't speed up when someone tries to overtake or pull in front of me and I always drive differently when I have a child in the car. So if that makes me a bad driver ........

hold on there you guys, i am a great driver, better than most the guys i know. i can see where you can see women as lousy drivers, but not ALL women.......not all men are the greatest. men THINK they are the greatest therefore taking greater risks on the road i think. but isnt that true with most things in life other than driving? :)

I have the true answer.

if they know how to drive why not the have a license just like me and you.
