Are you supposed to walk with or against traffic?

Just trying to settle an disagreement with my sister. She says you're supposed to walk with, I say you're supposed to walk against. Who's right?

You walk against traffic, so you can see the oncoming vehicles (rather than getting run over from behind). But if you are bicycling, you ride with traffic.

Walk against, ride your bike with

I always walk against traffic so I can see what's coming my way and get out of the way if I need to.

Yep, you are supposed to walk against traffic so if a car starts coming at you, you may be able to get out of the way in time. But you are supposed to ride a bike with the traffic.

You're always supposed to walk against traffic because if something happens, you're able to see it before it does in order to move out of the way. If you're with traffic, you could possibly take the risk of being blind to whatever danger could come your way!

There are no predefined rules for walking but yet I would say walking with the traffic is better. Also we will have to keep safe distance with vehicles and so stay as much far from road. Walking opposite may confuse people walking with the traffic.

walking doesn't matter, you can do either. its only when you are operating some kind of vehicle that you need to obey the moving with traffic rule. not on high ways and the like, you aren't supposed to walk on those at all. but if there are areas for walking, such as side walks, it doesn't matter

Sorry, but your sister is right. Although it really doesn't matter in neighborhoods or on side streets, on roads that have lights, you should walk with the flow of traffic so as to not freak out oncoming drivers. At 40 mph, a pedestrian walking towards you seems like he is going faster than he actually is.
