I didn't turn them off for an hour, why would I do it for a minute. If they do it at a time convenient for me my lights will be off.

No. Besides why should I turn my lights off for one minute? I don't watch that network, nor would I do it just because they are encouraging it. Energy saving should be a daily process, not just one day or one minute. Its just a cheap marketing ploy. Do it because its the right thing to do, not because a network says you should.
