As a parent, do you want seatbelts on school buses?

According to Federal studies... ejection of school bus occupants occurred in 15 out of 1119 incidents... in my book that's 15 too many !!! As far as the constant over crowding of buses, it happens way too much... kids forced to either sit or in some cases stand in isles... this is where the potential lies in ejections form moving buses in even a minor impact... brakes applied suddenly can cause a child to loose footing (if standing in the isle) and send him/her into the windshield, especially on these buses with rear engines and large flat fronts !

you can put them on a bus but who is gonna make sure the kids are wearing them.hopefully not the driver he or she has enough resposability.they cant check every time someone gets on that they have it on,and if the child does put it on whos to say they wont take it off

See, this really upsets me that it all boils down to the "cost" of putting seat belts in. And for the person who said that the chances of actully getting ejected from the school bus is slim, thats bull crap! What about during an accident the children being thrown around like popcorn in a popcorn machine! How scarry! I wish that there were seat belts on school buses!

It sounds like a good idea to me.Some of those sudden stops the bus driver does would justify using them.

The reason they do not have school bus seat belts is because a bus is the size of 3 small cars. An impact of an accident o such a large vehicle wouldn't nearly have the same affect as it would on a smaller car. Also, our generation of children are defiant! Knowing their parents will not be there they will NOT want to strap up. But, yes I absolutely think it's safe!

To ensure my kids' safety, I think seat belts should be required on a bus as with any vehicle.

Absolutely! If they are mandatory in cars because they cut the risk of injury by around 50%, why shouldn't they be mandatory in buses.

Yes, I do believe there should be some form of restraints on every school bus. Even if they did retro-fit buses with seatbelts, they'd probably add crappy old lap belts, not the ones with shoulder harnesses, or 5 point harnesses for kids under 65 pounds.

We know lapbelts can do more harm than good in crashes involving kids, so this has the potential to become a huge mess. Since it's state and federal money that will pay for the seatbelts, this should cost an arm and a leg and take forever to implemement.

I'll just keep driving my kids to school and use the carpool of moms that have carseats, booster seats and proper seat belts.

I definately have thought for years they should put seat belts in the buses. I feel another thing they need to stop is over crowding the buses with our kids.
