readers digest strongly suggests that whenever your driving, your headlights should be one. Please note, if it is raining, please remember to use headlights and wipers together. |

Here in Arizona, the law is from dusk til dawn, or anytime visibility is less than 500 feet. However, since we can't all seem to agree on when dusk and dawn are, you should always turn them on if you don't have daytime running lights. Having your lights on makes you much more visible to other cars, even during the day, and helps reduce accidents greatly!
To Ken D: I think you got that backward - it should be turn them ON 30 minutes before sunset, and OFF 30 minutes after sunrise. The other way gives you an hour of driving in the dark! |

At least a half hour before and after dawn or dusk... or when it is overcast because of rain or snow! |

A general rule taught is a half hour before dusk. Use your dims only in fog. When the sky darkens for a storm, lights should go on immediately. |

A half hour before sunset until a half hour after sunrise and always when on any highway or during poor weather conditions. |

its a fact that headlights on all the time is the safest way but any time it gets cloudy or dark or dust whatever is the right time |

Your headlights should be turned on at least 30 minutes before sunset and turned off at least 30 minutes before sunrise. It is also recommended that you turn your lights on when it rains(even if it's only light rain or sunny) or during other sight limiting weather conditions.
I hope this helps. |

The drivers had book states 30 min. before sunset. My car has automatic head lights, their on all the time car is running. The law is not just running lights, it's head lights. |

Rule of thumb is turn lights ON 30 minutes after SUNSET and off 30 minutes before SUNRISE. Of course this will vary greatly depending on whether it is a clear day, cloudy day, raining, fog, smoke or whatever. Also, this will vary if you are in flat country or mountains. Use your noggin and don't try to save electricity by keeping your lights off while it is dark. Pops |

Each state has it's own laws. While most states specify turning on headlights before/at dusk, or after/at dawn, CA states turning on headlights 30 minutes after dusk and 30 minutes before dawn -- a little bass-ackwards, in my opinion. |
