Been driving for over an hour and its raining mum saw smoke coming from bonnet..?

it is raining alot here mum and i both saw smoke coming from the bonnet. Does it mean something is wrong with my car or is it just that ive been driving for an hour and engine just got heated..
please could you advice me
my car is vauxhall astra 1.6 2001 X registration petrol. had it serviced and mot`d in december.

Relax, its just the heat of the engine, its more than likely steam. |

I think what you're seeing is steam not smoke.
The heat of the engine after a long drive has heated the bonnet causing the water on it to evaporate.
Nothing to worry about. My car does this too |

No harm in checking under the bonnet, and checking the water level.
Even if it is steam and not smoke, it will only take 2 secs just to look, better to be safe than sorry. |

You have nothing to worry about,coz alls that is/is where you have been driving for a while,the engine is really hot and then when you have parked up the cold rain is hitting your hot bonnet.(which then produces the steam.)Nothing to worry over. |

The MOT won't check the fluid levels but the service should have topped them up, hmm.....
Once your car has cooled, lift the bonnet and open the Expansion Tank. It's probably a little low. Check your handbook for the correct type of coolant although as your car is X reg, most off-the-shelf coolants will be fine. You can buy ready mixed (I always keep a bottle of this in the boot of my car, just incase!) but if you buy a bottle that you have to dilute with water, read the instructions.
OK, turn on car engine, coolant expansion tank cap off, pour in some coolant. The coolant will 'drop', top up with water (according to bottle instructions). Top up with coolant and water until the expansion tank is at the MAX FILL line. Re-screw the tank cap on tightly. You may want to give the thick pipe that runs round the front of your engine (check handbook for diagram) and squeeze, this helps disperse any air bubbles. |

make sure water and oil is full, and keep an eye on it, if it happens again then get it to the garage but it should be fine |
