Unlike most of the contributors to this question, I understand your point.

You can enter the bus lane to negotiate a stationary obstruction, ie, a vehicle turning right, which contrary to what everyone else has criticised you for, you have to pass on the left. Once clear of the obstruction you have to move back out of the bus lane immediately. Don't forget the N/S mirror check before you make the manoeuvre though!

Funnily enough, and, <chortle> pardon me for saying something rather outlandish, but BUS lanes, <tee hee> are actually for BUSES. Just fancy that.

Technically, you can't - the law says you can't drive in a bus lane while it's in operation. Whether what you suggest constitutes "driving" is a moot point - I'd say it does, and it's therefore illegal.

But that said, people do it every day, including me, and I suppose it's a matter of interpretation. Just don't do it with a police car behind you! Why not find a policeman with a white hat, and ask him? I think I will, because it's a good question.

if a bus lane is outside its hours of operation then you should be driving in it as a normal lane anyway! In this instance you can use the usual rules to overtake on the right - the one that applies here is you may pass on the left if a vehicle is turning right and it is safe to do so. You would be in the left lane (bus lane) and the other vehicle in the right lane.

if you are driving along on the right because the bus lane is active, then no you cant enter it at all.
It is dangerous (and illegal) to pull into the left to undertake someone at any time.

No, not whilst they are in their operating times. I have noticed that cctv is being increasingly focussed on bus lanes in my city, just to catch the motorist in the act and get more revenue in the way of penalties. Beware, Big Brother really is watching you. lol

In theory, maybe not, but in any practical universe, you are allowed to go around an obstacle provided you don't create one yourself, and you do it safely.

No as undertaking is illegal, the only vehicles who can use the bus lanes are buses obviously and emergency services

NO. Undertaking is illegal wherever it takes place, whether on an A road, B road or motorway.
