Busted my window?
Find answers to your legal question.

Busted my window?

hey id like to ask anyone with insurance/ law knowledge about something.
some punks busted my car window and stole my ipod, it was parked on college campus - there were NO signs re: property at drivers risk. they have security (probably asleep at the time).
can i sue for the price of the window and ipod?

yeah get an estimate and take it to small claims court.

No. You can only sue if you can show that it was the college's fault.

The thief was the culprit, not the college.

So...it's an insurance jobbie.

BTW I've answered both copies of your question, so thanks for the double points.

Dear me! You gonna sue someone for letting rain fall on you? You are required to take care of your possessions (try looking on the wording of your insurance policy)

No you are on private land. unless it was the owner of the lands fault, It would be to hard to prove and your insuranc covers you for damage any way. best have protected no bonusthou or could be costly.

Comprehensive on auto insurance will probably cover window. Try home owners/renters insurance for ipod. The school has no responsibility unless the actually took possession of your car (valet parking, etc).

you can try . good luck.

To be honest, I think it is kind of common sense not to leave anything valuable in your car. I doubt you'd of left £100 in £10 notes in the car, so why on earth would you leave something with monetary and sentimental value in your car? College car parks and student houses are a goldmine for thieves, surely every student knows this?!?

So no, I you don't have a leg to stand on. And I'm sure if you read through the terms and conditions on your car insurance policy, you'll find that YOU as the owner of the car have a certain degree of responsibilty for ensuring the safety of your car. The college security are not there to watch out for car thieves all day!

If you have auto insurance, they will pay for the replacement of the window without a deductible in most states but check with your auto insurance. You might make a claim with the college but probably won't recover

I don't think, you would recover any money if you sued. The legal cost will be 2 times more than the bill for the busted window and ipod combined.

You want to leave a $100 bill in the front seat, wait for some punk to smash your window and take it, then try to sue the campus for the loss.

Same theory.

You can claim for insurance for the window though. Lesson learnt: Never leave your valubles lying around, you are toying with the idea of getting it clear away for you.
