Yes the objects are actually closer, than you see in this "convex" mirror. The mirror lens is curved "inward". The vehicles you see in this mirror seem far away, but they are not. Looking through your rear view mirror,or the side view mirror on the driver's side, will give you the true distance of the vehicles, thus letting you know when it is safe to change lanes. |

It's a legal disclaimer. Yes, there is a logic to it, because it's an accurate statement of fact. |

They want you to be aware that you're not looking at a normal mirror. Those mirrors are made so that you get a wider field of view, but to do that they have to make everything look smaller and farther away. |

I not understand why they not use a regular mirror. |

The car looks farther away then it is. They have that warning there to prevent numerous crashes where people assume they are behind them when they're really like right up there bumper. |

Yes, there is complete logic to it. The mirror on the right-hand side is slightly convex -- curved outward slightly, not inward. This gives the mirror a wider field of vision than a flat (plano) mirror would. The reason for this is that it makes it more likely to see something in the "blind spot" on the right side of the vehicle.
However, using a convex mirror also makes the image in the mirror seem to be smaller than actual size. Most people would interpret this as being farther away than it actually is.
It's a trade off. You get a wider field of vision without having to install a much larger mirror, but the vehicles that you see in the mirror are actually closer than they appear to be. The notification is there to remind the driver of that fact so that you can make appropriate allowances for it. |

for the same reason McDonald's has started putting "caution, contents are hot" on their coffee cups...
because someone did something stupid and sued them and some dumbass judge gave them money for it instead of just calling them stupid and laughing |

it's just to let you know that objects really are closer that they appear. just so if you see a car in your mirror and think it's really far and you want to make a turn, you're more careful so you don't hit it |

OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR IN THE MIRROR |
