California Bans Electronic Devices While Driving .....?
|
For anyone under 18. Why shouldn't it be for anyone who's driving? What has the age of the person got to do with the dangers of using them while driving? Accidents occur for a variety of reasons. Do you think this is right or should it be any age for this law? Thanks for your answers. Additional Details I'm a 45 year old man and drive a truck for Fedex Express and they don't hire anyone under 21 to drive so stop with the kid and child comments. Just answer the question or move on.

Accidents are classified by age group. Insurance companies use this information to develop their rates and educate the public.
"Accidents occur for a variety of reasons" is a general statement that may apply to teens and adults.
Unfortunately, the majority of drivers try to multi-task and don't realize when they're trying to juggle too many tasks. Common sense has eluded the average driver in favor of technology. To replace common sense, these "anti-distraction' measures (mostly opposed by the Telecommuncations Industry) were enacted.
As recently as month ago, the ommission of no text messaging by adults was passed. However, it won't be "enforced" until Jan. 1, 2009.
Adults and teens were prohibited from cell phone useage on July 1, 2008.
The Provisional licensing rules and the restriction on electronic devices are in place to promote safer driving and educate teens.
The intent of the law is good whether you're talking about teens or adult drivers. The only error was allowing adults to talk with a bluetooth device. When you're engaged in a conversation, you mind is NOT on your driving. Allowing bluetooth devices was a compromise by the Telecommunications Industry. |

people are idiots

Kids are idiots; they drive like idiots. Give them a cell phone to text with while driving, and you got tons of trouble. |

It's rediculous!! I think the law should apply to ALL drivers, we are on the same exact page...
The law took action in July, right before I finally got my license after delaying it for a few years...
It's a good law; however, individuals over the age of 18 have the SAME risks as us younger drivers....
seems like the law doesn't really affect many... just 16 and 17 year olds...mayb 18?
not sure.... |

Well in our state----> washington, no one can use any electronic devices while driving. Maybe older people have better use for them and need them more? idk? |

THis gives them a out to not enforce it. Here the new drivers are not allowed to use a phone while driving for the first 6 months. They all do who checks to see who is a new driver and not a new driver. |

Most 18 years olds have never been in an accident, so they speed, follow too closely, dont check when lane changing and all the stuff that you are supposed to do and what experienced drivers have formed into a habit when driving, the last thing you need to give an un-experienced is a "electronic device" in their hand. After i got into my first accident my driving habits changed real quick. ( no offense to 18 year olds that do drive correctly, and also not stating that i am a "experienced driver", also im not saying just cuz you are 42 years old that you are an experienced driver, there are a lot of Fu**ing morons out there ). I once WATCH myself get rear ended by a guy that was looking at his phone, getting out of the car he tried to pay me off and saying come on man i just got into an accident and got my car fixed.. i wanted to smack him across the head. |

I disagree with your final comments and your angry remarks towards people simply answering your questions.
A person who has been driving for 10 years vs. a driver of only 1 year is a huge difference. Those under 18 are no where near responsible enough or experienced enough to even consider allowing them to talk on or use cell phones in any fashion including texting. I direct my opinion mostly to cell phones as these are the most common electronic devices being operated while driving and is probably the biggest distraction.
I do agree that talking on cell phones or operating an iPod while driving is irresponsible, but still isn't as dangerous for an older, more experienced driver. I can see the reasons for imposing rules on minors and not adults. I do believe, however, that the rules and regulations in regards to age will change over time.
My question to you is if you already know the "right" answer and already have a formed opinion that no one can change, why bother asking anyone else? |
