Since I am a sophmore and 16 and have a permit. Can I drive to school? I am in Varsity Tennis and its a hastle for my parents to drive to school at 3 then leave then pick me up around 5. I live in NY, I heard that you can drive to work and school if you fill out some forms on a permit. Please let me know. Thanks.

The only way you can legally drive with a permit is to have a qualified licensed driver with you at all times.
So yes, you can drive to school with a permit IF you have a licensed driver with you when you are driving to school. If you drive at any time on a permit without a qualified licensed driver with you, you can be charged with driving without a license & possibly lose any chance of getting your license then until you are 18 or 21.

Reread the section you obtained this information from. That ONLY APPLIES TO TEENS WITH A LIMITED JUNIOR LICENSE not an INSTRUCTIONAL PERMIT as you say you have. Under an instructional permit you cannot, AT ANY TIME, drive unsupervised regardless of which part of the state of NY you live in. |

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL DRIVERS WITH LEARNER PERMITS
No matter what age you are, if you hold a learner permit, you may not drive:
* Unless accompanied by a supervising driver at least age 21 who has a license valid for operating the vehicle you are driving. For example, only a person with a motorcycle license may supervise a motorcycle learner.
* In a DMV road test area.
* On any street within a park in New York City, or any bridge or tunnel under the jurisdiction of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
* On the Cross County, Hutchinson River, Saw Mill River, or Taconic State parkways in Westchester County. |

You can try, but if for some reason the police pull you over you will be arrested, charged with unlicensed operation and your car will be towed since you are not a licensed driver.
You might also have difficulty getting a license after a charge like this on your record, you will at least have a longer wait to become a licensed driver. |
