I just bought a Jeep Cherokee with bigger tires on it that are going to need changed. I already own a Chrysler LHS that has the 225 16's. I was going to take the tires from my car and put them on the Jeep. Will they be compatible?

The tires will probably fit, but they are too narrow. Cornering power will suffer, as well as steering response. The new tires will have a rolling diameter about 10% smaller than the originals, which translates into a 10% smaller rolling circumference. This will throw your odometer and speedometer off by that much.
On a Jeep especially, you want flotation, so the smaller contact patch is a bad idea. They will also lower ground clearance by 36.5 mm (245X0.7 - 225X0.6), or 1.42 inches.
If you really want 60 series tires on your Cherokee, the correct size with 16 inch wheels is 285/60R16. |

Yes. The best thing to do is look somewhere around the drivers door latch, there should be a sticker that has OEM's tire size. This tells you the original size that came on the SUV. Now if it came with 245 70 16 the only real difference you will notice will be in your speedometer. The smaller tires will throw it off only by about 1 to 2 MPH faster. So in short if the speedometer is showing 60 you will be doing only about 58 or 59. Hope this is helpful. |
