Can I legally have both airbags disabled in my car in Texas?

I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima with driver and passenger airbags. I do not like airbags. Yes I know its a safety feature but in my last vehicle when it got wrecked the airbags didn't do anything but harm to me and the guy in the passenger seat. The airbag on the driver side never even hit my face and sprained both wrists, the passenger airbag did not touch my passenger when it deployed but it did throw broken glass from the window right in his face. If I can find a shop to do it the right way, am I within my rights to have them disabled and/or removed. Please specify why or why not.

1. I live in Texas and yes its legal to drive this way...
2. I do state vehicle inspections and airbags are not part of the inspection....
3. The only thing that will affect you will be your insurance rates will increase... |

It is not illegal to have them turned off. In 1999 it became illegal for manufacturer's not to install them. Just dont take a chevy to a toyota de
aler and expect it done for free. |

I can't tell you about state law, but you should ask your insurance company if you will be covered medically in a accident, after the air bags are disconnected. |
