Hi, I have a 26 foot travel trailer. I don't want to buy one of those toy haulers to put my quad in. Has anyone towed their snowmobile/quad behind their travel trailer? Is it legal? If so I would assume you wouldn't want to get in a place where you had to back up, could be a night mare. I want to bring my 4 wheeler along, can someone provide some suggestions, next to carrying it on my back. :):)

It is perfectly legal to pull doubles as long as your travel trailer is a 5th wheel. If your travel trailer is a bumper-pull, then nope!
I have seen many get away with pulling 2 bumper-pulls, but I believe it is illegal in every state.
In Nevada, you may require a special driver's license to do this. My dad has to upgrade his license because of the gross weight of his truck/trailer (still under 26k) even though it is for private use! Verify with your local DMV on any special requirements for pulling the two trailers...
I have pulled a 16' behind my 24' gooseneck. You just need to plan ahead when your parking or getting fuel. You can back them up (if you started out being in a straight line) but it is kinda tricky, plus it helped that both of mine were long. I just parked in areas that I knew I could continue forward when I left. Make sure you leave more room when passing. If you cannot see your second trailer behind your travel trailer, I suggest adding little dune flags mounted horizontally so that you can see the flags in the mirrors, so you know where your trailer is, and if it is swaying or something. |
