From the California Driver Handbook:
You may use a carpool lane or onramp if your vehicle carries the minimum number of people required for the carpool lane. It says PEOPLE not LIVING people....so I bet you could get away with it! |

No. According to law, a corpse does not count as a person. Neither does an unborn child. Therefore, neither a corpse-carrying hearse nor a pregnant woman may legally travel alone in the carpool lane. |

This was discussed in my defensive driving course last week. The answer is no. It has to be a living, breathing human being. A fetus in a mother's womb don't count, either. |

nope. at that point it's cargo. The car pool lane is to encourage people to travel together that would normally drive seperatly. Dead guy is not driving anywhere anytime soon. |
