Can an 8 year old sit safely in the front seat of a car with a booster seat?

She is a head taller than most of her peers, but doesn't quite fit properly in a regular seatbelt, so her mother still wants her in a booster seat. She is well above the height and weight requirement for NYS and is legally able to ride without a booster seat.
If it's not safe, please tell me what is not safe about it.

8 years old, she should be in the backseat. you said she cannot fit properly in a regular belt, so that means she still needs a booster seat- in the back seat. An airbag can kill a child in the front seat, with a booster seat or not. She needs to stay in the back until she is about 12 or 13 and tall enough so that the seat belt would restrain her properly, and that if an airbag deployed, it would not inflate directly into her face. |

Not only is it NOT SAFE, it is ILLEGAL in most states... I live in New York and a person must be at LEAST 12 years old to sit in the front seat. I don't even make the heighth requirement for the front seat because I'm only 4' 8" but I'm also 57 and have been driving for over 40 YEARS.... Why is it not safe for ANY 8 year old to be in the front seat? In any kind of collision accident, a child at ANY age who is securely in a booster seat, legal car seat, or seat belt, is safer then that same child in the front because---upon impact, it is USUALLY the front end of the car that receives the most damage....if there are no PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS, the chances of pieces of metal OR GLASS coming in on any CHILD in that front seat COULD very well KILL that child.... the back seat area is MORE protected...... you don't really need to know WHY it's safer ---you just need to know it's a LAW and LAWS that protect children MUST be followed. |

No - passengers are much safer in the back seat. Plus the booster would push her even closer to the air bag and make her more UNSAFE! |

No she should not be in the front seat.... air bags and it's is not safe no reason for an 8 year old in the front seat. 10 and even then I think that is young, but if she weights enough no sooner then 10. |

Make the decision for yourself I'm 35 i remember my parents putting me in the front seat at that age and younger nothing happend to me if her feet touch the floorboard i say go for it just buckle up!!!! |

Sure it's safe.Just drive safe,and don't get in an accident.We didn't even have seatbelts or booster seats in cars when I was a child,and I'm still here. |
