An ambulance nearly drove straight into me today on a roundabout. It had its sirens and lights on , but when i drove up the road the crew were coming out of a shop after buying a drink. Surley this is not right !!

We would get called off on about a third of our runs when I worked as an EMT. Usually, the fire or police department arrived and it was just a property damage accident or the patient had already left in their car for the hospital, or another responding ambulance arrived first and didn't need us. About the only people who would care about your complaint are the people who would be responsible for the crews actions. Depending on the type of service, that would be the supervisor or chief either at a fire department, hospital, or even a private company. Also, most states have some sort of Department of Public Safety which certifies, and de-certifies, ambulances and they often respond to complaints. |

call the office to log a complaint.. if they are not on a call, then they should not be using the lights and sirens.. one night i was doing a ride along, another station invited us to eat.. the driver was going really fast to get there that when a red light came up they switched on the lights and sirens and could have killed us..
it is not right, i now work on an ambulance and i would not do this.. it is bad enough if you are running an emergancy call.. but to put peoples lives in danger when you want to eat that is just wrong... |

No they are not supposed to use them if they are not on a call. Complain to the police dept. of the town where the ambulance is housed. |

no, no, a thousand times, no! but it could have accidently gone off - driver forgot to change horn switch back to horn.
sounds as though the crew was cancelled after passing your location-which does happen. I doubt that there was any malice intended. |

I don't think there suppose to. and If they use the siren when there not suppose to I'm sure they could get in trouble |
