Ok so heres what happened: Last week I was driving home and as I was making a turn a girl ran in front of my car, I hit the breaks but still hit her. The EMT said she would be fine. There were also witnesses there who said it was just an accident, she ran in front and I didnt see her
I wanna know if I have to contact my insurance company. My fear is if she decides not to press charges, and I notify my insurance company anyway, my insurance would go up. Does my insurance company recieve a accident report from the police? I dont know what I should do!! If n e one knows anything, I'd greatly appreciate it. God Bless

Are you for real? YES, you MUST contact your insurance company and immediately! If you hit someone, the chances are you AND your insurance company will soon be contacted with a lawsuit that your insurance company will have to defend.
I assume you have a police report. Your insurance company will undoutedly pay for her injuries (trust me, even though she did not appear to have any at the time, some will magically materialize). I hope you were sober at the time of the accident or buddy, you are REALLY in trouble big time! Tell your insurance company IMMEDIATELY, get them a copy of the police report and don't talk to ANYONE who might contact you from the other side (the girl's parents, their attorney, their insurance company, etc.). Speak ONLY with your insurance company. Geesh! |

You absolutely must contact your insurance company for your own protection. It is very likely that your rates won't go up even if the girl reports the accident. The insurance company will want to see the police report (for THEIR own protection). |

Contact your insurance company, just to be sure that you will be covered in the event that the girl (or her parents) decide to sue. |

If you live in the USA your best choice it to notify both your local Police Department and your Insurance Company.
As far as rate changes are concerned ask you Insurance Agent.
Most states require you to notify the Police within 24 hours of any accident.
