Can i plead not guilty for this ticket or is it even worth it?

Can i plead not guilty for this ticket or is it even worth it?

ok so i got a ticket for going 40 in a school zone. i don't remember if this is right or not but i thought that if there were no children around then that yellow 25 mph sign didn't apply. all the schools are on vacation to so those signs shouldn't mean anything right?

if i am right is it even worth it to go to court. like i don't have the money to just pay the ticket but i don't know....
Additional Details
i live in connecticut by the way....i don't know if the laws are different anywhere else

every state in the US has different laws.

i was ticketed once for 'excessive speed' for doing 16 in a 15 mph zone.

i fought the ticket, and provided evidence that the officer's radar gun is not accurate to within one mile an hour. i was still found to be in violation, regardless of evidence. (just because a judge gets to sit on the bench doesn't mean that he's got a brain.)

check to see if you can plead 'nolo contendere' (no contest) this means that you are not admitting guilt, but aren't going to fight it. a nolo plead will increase your insurance payments less than a guilty plead, but you still have to pay the fine.

Unless the sign said "25 while children present", then it's 25 ALL THE TIME.

There are some signs that say 25, 30, whatever, while light is flashing. Or while children are present.

If that's the case, you have a case.

If it just said School zone, 25mph; then you should have been able to figure out that it just means it's 25mph all the time. Kids or no kids.

If I were you, I would call the traffic department or whatever department can clarify those laws. It seems to me that if the schools are on vacation, then it shouldn't matter. My husband got a ticket once for going 20 in a 15mph school zone during summer break. He ended up not paying it. Have those people you call clarify the laws. If it ends up that you are right, for sure take it to court, that's a mark on your record. If it seems a bit hazy, then take it to court. If there is any chance you were not in the wrong, I would go to court with it. It could potentially mean skyrocketing insurance premiums in addition to the cost of the ticket.

!!!!U can call me shortstuff!!
my husband was in the same situation and went to court today we live in TX and he was not guilty and he had a 3oo and some dollar ticket and all he had to do was donate money to or local trash and treasure thrift s tore and donate to the food pantry and the judge cleared him out

school zone speed limits are 25 regardless of whether children are there or not. pay your fine or go to court. if you go to court and plead not guilty, you will eventually have to go infront of a judge again.

just pay your fine

i dont think you should plead because that was a school zone and you dont know if a lttle kid could of ran out into the street well you could of it the kid and you could of killed yhe kid and gone to jail. so just take the ticket to the jugde and tell her/him everything and dont for get look at the speed limit more better drive safe.

I say that you fight is because this is what your state law states.

SCHOOL SPEED LIMITS IN SCHOOL ZONES

These can be established on local roads after an investigation by the Division of Traffic Engineering and approval by the STC.

The regulatory speed limit which is approved by the STC is in effect during school hours when the lights attached to the sign assembly are flashing.

The school plate is black and yellow and the speed limit is black and white.

Yes. Just tell the judge that you didn't see any children around.
