Can mobile phones set off Airbags?

I recently heard that Mobile Phones can set off an airbag in a car. Is that true?

not during normal use this is an urban myth the airbag contains no radio receivers!

but if you drive at 40+MPH into a huge mountain of mobile phones the impact could set off the airbag but ruin the front of the vehicle@

if you are driving, while chatting on the mobile...then crash, yes, the airbag will go off.

Numerous searches on google come up as no. I don't believe there is any radio receiver on an air bag module, even if there was, it would not operate on the same frequencies as a cell phone. Cell phones are on their own restricted band.

definitely not, car manufacturers test extensively to this end and most even offer the option of factory fitted handsfree kits. They can afford the very best of advice and would never expose themselves to such a risk.

only if you ploug into something while using it. I think that's how the rumour was intended, to scare people into not using them whilst driving.
