Can someone explain to me why I got this question wrong on my permit test?

A red arrow pointing to the right on a traffic light means you may:
a) Turn in that direction after slowing and checking traffic
b) Not turn in that direction until the light turns green
c) Turn in that direction after you come to a complete stop
I chose c, but the answer was b. I thought it is permitted to turn right on red unless otherwise posted. My guess is I may turn right on a red light, but can't turn right on a red arrow. Am I right? Who can explain this to me? Thank you those who help!

You are not allowed to turn on a red arrow. It is understood that you may turn on a full red light, so they changed "may not turn" to a red arrow. |

Correct. A red arrow means that you may not turn in that direction at all. You may turn right after a complete stop only if there is no sign and no red right arrow, and you are not in New York City. |

A red arrow pointing to the right means do not turn until the light turns green. even if there is no sign telling you no turn on red. You can not turn right on a red arrow until the light turns green. Check the DMV handbook again. You'll see. |

If theres a red arrow pointing right, that means you can not turn right AT ALL until the light hits green. If you run into a stoplight with no arrows pointing in that direction, THAN you'd follow up with C.
So yes, B is the right answer. Good luck on your next test! |

You still have a red light, even though it's an arrow. Since it points right, it negates the "right turn on red" ordinance. |
