Can somone give me a Crash course on what you need to know about cars/street racing?.?

Im just now getting into cars ive been looking up alot of things up but i fear my journey is at a halt, i cannot find any sites that give me the information so badly desire lol..
Anyway im wondering if anyone can link me a good site that goes into detail about Turbos/v8s what would beat what in a race, what makes different cars faster and better then others etc etc. Also 1 thing im wondering, in some tricked out cars ive seen racing with my friend they hiss when they shift, what is it that does that? and why is it better?I know im gona get a few smartass comments but for those of you who are for real thank you in advance for your help, i really appreciate it. you got respect.

Im not gona turbo a v8... i was asking which one would win in a race with eachother and why.
And yes madjack you are right leaving the racing to the track is safer and better but in my opinion takes out all the fun, and most the adrenaline, Street racing will never die. Anyway i dont race yet anyway. My friend has a Subaru Impreza WRX i just ride along when he races cause its fun and it lit the fuze to my Ambition to learn about cars, Thus here i am.
Thank you all for the information so far but keep it coming please :).

That is a large load of crap, it takes all the fun out of racing. Dieing and or killing people is fun. And real racers do not street race. Street racers can not usually pass a basic safety check, their cars are not that fast anyway. And most of them are afraid to get into a real race. Maybe your street racing career will be short and that gene pool will die out and the rest of us will be safer. And people wonder why there
is so much talk about raising the driving age. And why are insurance rates so high. Just read you lame letter and they will know.

Leave the racing on the race tracks. Street racing is pointless and puts innocent bystanders at an unnecessary risk.

If you really want to race, checkout your local race track. There are many advantages to this.

First of all, you can go as fast as you want and not have any trouble with the law.

You won't have to look for a race because you will always know where and when it will be.

There will be a sanctioning body with a rule book. There will be two advantages to this. There will be safety requirements for your car and equipment so you will be as safe as possible. There will also be rules as to what modifications can be made in each class so there will be a level playing field. There will be tech inspections to see that these rules will not be broken.

On the track you will be racing against several other skilled drivers, not just some nobody on the street that his only racing qualifications is having a fat enough checkbook to make his car fast.

The fans will be out of harms way in a grandstand protected by a wall and catch fence. There will be a ambulance and paramedics on site just in case something goes wrong.

You will get paid. You can have sponsors to help with your expences. Who knows, you might even get a few fans.

Depending on where you live, there is usually a local circle track, road course, or drag strip near by.

Checkout your local race track. I suggest getting a used race car from one of the entry level classes to start. This way, you won't need to re-invent the wheel building your first race car. After you learn the ropes, sell it and either build a new car or get another one in a higher class.

the hiss is called a blow off valve for turbocharged cars. the rest i can't tell you. but the key in a race is the power to weight ratio.

Go to Wikipedia... Type in Turbo. It will tell you everything about it. You don't want to turbo a v8 anyway... As for what would beat what... Thats the complete wrong way to look at it. Pick a car enjoy and go from there. Any car can be fast, as long as you fork over the cash. When your comparing cars you want to look at the engine size, weight, drive type, PRICE, etc... The hiss you hear is a blow off valve that you can buy if your running a turbo, and it is not always "better", but are cheaper than other methods.
