The sad fact is motor vehicle wrecks are the leading cause of death in the United States for persons under age 34, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Reports.

Of those deaths, more than 40 percent are alcohol-related.

A driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.10 or greater is seven times more likely to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash than is a driver who has not consumed alcoholic beverages, and a driver with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or greater is about 25 times more likely.

A 160-pound person drinking two beers within an hour would probably have a BAC of 0.04, well below the legal limits of driving under the influence, but 1.4 times more likely to have an accident than someone who is sober.

Every 30 minutes someone dies in an alcohol-related crash. Alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes killed nearly 17,000 people in 2002 alone (latest figures available). Alcohol is a factor in 6% of all traffic crashes, and over 40% of all fatal crashes.

Young drivers are at particular risk to be involved in alcohol-related crashes. If there is a young driver in your family, strictly enforce a zero tolerance policy with alcohol. All states have a 21-year-old drinking age law.

Each year 1,500,000 people are arrested for drunk driving in the United States. Of those, approximately 500,000 are officially convicted for repeat offense.

Each year, alcohol-related crashes in the United States cost about $51 billion.

Male drivers involved in fatal motor vehicle crashes are almost twice as likely as female drivers to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or greater (NHTSA 2004b). A BAC of 0.08% is equal to or greater than the legal limit in most states.

UK:
1. One can of Budweiser beer will put you over the intoximeter at the police station. Why? I never knew.
2. Half a pint of beer or a glass of wine or a small measure of spirit amounts to one unit. It takes the body one hour to cleanse one unit out of itself. Therefore if you have a large amount to drink, you may still be over the drink drive limit the next morning.
3. The roadside breathaliser is merely a test and if positive allows for your arrest. The police station test is the one that counts for court purposes.
4. Home made wine or home brew beer can be as much as twice or three times the alcohol level of ordinary beer or wine.
5. If you refuse a breath test in the street, you can be charged, convicted and punished as if you were over the limit.
6. Always check your lights at night, as one failed bulb gives the police the right to stop you, once stopped, if the officer suspects you have been drinking you may be breath tested.
7. Never give a drunken friend a lift home if you have been drinking yourself. His directions will cause you to drive erratically and get stopped by police.
NEVER DRINK DRIVE: if you do get convicted of drink driving, it will effect you for the next ten years when you apply for Insurance - much higher rates, or hiring a car - you will most certainly be refused.

Sweetie, if you are that young I am not even sure if you should be on here with no supervision. You really need to ask your parents for homework help and have them look at this (Yahoo Answers) to get your contact information off. I am giving you a link about Drunk Driving only because I am totally against it and I am not positive why you are asking. I really want you to read the information from this link:

Here's one fact that I deduced from the spelling and grammar of your question:

You shouldn't be driving right now. Give your keys to someone else to hold for a couple of hours.

This website explains how alcool works, you'll have to search a little but I know for a fact that it explains what alcool does to your body and there are links to other related websites. Also, you should look up MADD (Mothers against drunk driving) I'm sure there's plenty of facts about the subject. good luck

Don't drink, your to young. Don't drive your to young.
I Fink that you should find a book on the effects of alchool and its advised restrictions.

andy
all i can tell you is that no one should do it. it's not safe at all and many people have been killed because of it. if you or anyone is drinking and planning on driving do not let them do it because chances are they will get killed or kill someone else.

I am not sure what it is that you want to know, but drinking and driving or more appropriately driving while under the influence-DUI- (that means under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs illegal drugs and over the counter medication) can impair your normal faculties (that is your judgment, hearing seeing abilities etc.) and will prevent you from operating a vehicle properly. Therefore, you could be arrested for DUI. You should check into your local state statutes to find out what the penalties for DUI are. Here in Florida, the first one could cost you over $5000.00, you are considered DUI if you have a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher or if certain drugs are found in your system. That part is probably consistent with all the states...but every state is different. In order to prove that you are DUI, an officer has to be able to show that you were driving a vehicle or that you had actual physical control of the vehicle (that is, that you had possession of your car keys while at or around your vehicle). I could probably go all day talking about DUI, but it would be somewhat useless to you if you don't live in the State of Florida. If you do live in Florida, seek Florida State Statute 316.193...It is plenty to read. If not, go to Yahoo and try typing in: (YourStateName) state statutes and navigate from there. For future reference, make a practice of proofreading your work before submitting it; I don't know what fink means. This is kind of informal and your work does not have to perfect here, but it should at-least be understandable. I had to learn that the hard way. Trust me, it will save you later on in life. Take Care and good luck.
