Car Seat in middle of back seat ?

yes. if you only have one child, that is the safest seat in the car for him. it's also the most convenient once you are moving as he can't kick your seats and it's easier to pass him toys, bottles, or food. on the other hand, it's also the hardest one to put him in and to buckle up.

if they are handling the doors, every car sold in the US has child safety locks on the rear doors which makes the inside handle useless but still allows the outside handle to open the car door. you can ususally find it on the back sill of the rear doors.
you also have an automatic locking device for all windows that are not on the drivers door if you have power windows.

I've been hearing about this and I think it makes sense to put the child in the middle to help with side impact collisions.

Provided the car seat can be properly secured in the middle it should be fine.

I would be more concerned about the whole lot coming right through between the front seats in the event of a frontal impact because the car seat has not been properly secured than I would be about a side-on impact with the car seat properly secured on one side or the other. Does your car have a three point inertia-reel seatbelt in the middle or just a lapbelt?

I have a two year old daughter. The infant car seat that she used to have was installed in the middle of back seat. Now I got a new car seat and installed it facing forward. I was tempted to put the car seat on the side because as you know it is much easier to take her in and out of the seat when it is on the side. However two things occurred to me; first it is not only safer in accidents to have the car seat in the middle, but I also realized that she can potentially reach and open the car door while I am driving and pose a serious danger. she is very mechanical and very much into door handles and buttons and etc. So it would be a very good idea to have the seat in the middle.

I actually think it depends on your state laws, but I have never heard of a toddler in the middle back seat. I know newborns/babies are supposed to face backwards in the backseat, but a toddler I'm not so sure of. I don't think this is a good idea because if you got hit from behind he could be thrown out the window since there is open space. And it is much more likely to get hit from behind than on the sides.

The middle of the back seat of the car is the safest place for your child because that part of the vehicle has the highest rated crumple zone.....
