I was involved this morning in an accident with a trailer truck. Eventhough, it was a minor accident, and the only thing that broke from my car was the back cover of my left light. the lights still work, but there is nothing to cover it, like the glass it has to protect it. Can I still drive? Explain. Help??????????

Not very long, the police like brake lights! The auto stores do sell a plastic film in red & clear for such emergencies. Use clear tape & try to get the piece to fix it soon!

Technically, the only 'white light' that can be emitted from the rear of the car is from the backup lights. If you can get some red transparent tape to cover the signal/brake lights, you may get away with it. |

You can still drive but you have to change your car. or at least fix it. Its for your safety. |

as long as the car run an work good yes you can still drive it, i say keep the report paper with you in case they pull you over,,now if you want you can get a red tape, an put over,the light to show red, till they settle, but i see nothing wrong ,lot of people still drive their car like this |

Especially at night, the light is too bright for drivers following you. Until you get it replaced, go to an auto parts store. They sell a type of tape that resembles the red lens that was broken. Cover it with that. |

Yes, you can drive it. To help you get by until you can get the light cover fixed, get some of the red tape designed for temporary repairs of tail light lenses (parts store). |

Sure, but I would get it fixed as soon as possible.
It can be confusing/irritating to other drivers and it gives the police a reason to pull you over. |

Since the damage is cosmetic only, you can still drive. I would recommend that you purchase some red tape and cover the exposed white tail light in order to conform to the law. |

I don't know if this is true nationally, but in my state, you have to put some tape or something over the exposed tail light. |

Truthfully it depends on the discretion of the police officers in your area, Broken light lenses are not legal but in the situation you are in and in was resent most cops would let you go with a verbal warning. Should be no big deal. |
