Hi,
I was wondering in regard to law involving accidents in ontario. If someone hits my car while I am at a stop sign, obeying all laws, completely their fault, and provides me fraudulent infromation (which I check against his current plate to see was not infact the car he was in). being concerned for my safety, as he seemed very much twitchy and from what I would imagine under the influence of something, I chose not to futher the matter, I wrote down his legit plate.
I got home and contacted the police, who came and told me they will get his legit info, which I was given. THE PROBLEM!!!!
The police officers gave this kid my home phone number aswell as my address. which I did not give them permission to do.
my son phoned them and got both the officers badge numbers, can I file a complaint against them? I feel as though they have made my home vulnerable to damages, and that they have invaded my privacy by giving away such info.
I own a cellphone, which I would have given as my contact info if the police had not needed to be contacted.
what can I do? was him lying to me considered fraud??? any help please!!

that's not really an invasion of privacy because in the situation that you got in an accident... you were both suppose to exchange info.. which includes licenses number and address and stuff.. so yeah, good luck with that!! |

Call and speak with his supervisor and explain this situation and maybe he or she can do something for you. |

The police would be liable is something happens. I could talk to an attorney and sue if something does.
You may want to talk to an attorney anyway.
You have not committed fraud. Not sure why you think you did.

file a complaint at the police station against the officer, it stays on his record, so he'll try to fix it so that his record will show it as resolved, complaint go against him at promotion time. |
