Car alarm...glass breaking sensors?
Find answers to your legal question.

Car alarm...glass breaking sensors?

i have an aftermarket alarm on my car and just recently had my window smashed open. it didnt even go off! what are glass breaking sensors? should i add them to my current alarm? can i also make my alarm be more sensitive so it will go off if someone taps the car? ive seen this remote with a pic of a car and it blinks and sounds and shows u where the car was touched.
Additional Details
they didnt open the door and the car automatically arms itself

It sounds like your alarm is an entry alarm. It is probably wired into the switch that turns on your dome light when the door is opened & has a motion detector for if the car is rocked.

As for the motion detector portion, your system should have a way to set the sensitivity threshold so it will trip with even a gentle breeze blowing to having to practically slam into the car with something. If you can change the sensitivity, try a couple different settings then try to trip your alarm until you like the sensitivity.

For your other problem, you will need to see if your system is upgradeable. If not, then you may want to look into replacing it with a more sophisticated system that will detect air pressure variances inside the car or get one that has a proximity sensor.

Have you ever seen some of the old Viper car alarm commercials? The ones that has the snake come out & encircle the car when a thief approaches it & there is also some type of voice message that is played too warning him that the vehicle is protected by Viper?

That is an example of a proximity sensor in operation. Depending on the sensitivity settings, all someone has to do is just get within 1-3 feet of the car & the alarm will activate. They don't even have to touch the car, or move the car for it to go off.

i dont know about glass breaking sensors, but i have sensors in my car which sense a change of pressure, ie if someone smashes a window or manages to get a door open( my alarm goes off) but glass breaking sensors, it could be the same thing but im not sure!! your alarm should have went off though surely!!

My alarm is set to go off when a door opens, so if they smashed your window and didn't open the door, maybe that was the reason. Mine will also go off if my car is hit (or if I close the trunk too hard). Maybe you didn't arm it by accident? Or maybe it went off, but no one paid attention and it eventually shut off after a few minutes.
