Car hit from behind...?

i was driving home,i went thru the plaza for shortcut, sum guy was coming out of the fastfood parkin space to my right, and it seemed like he wanted to go first but i went in front of him, so as i was about to make my right turn to exit out the plaza to go home he hit me from behind, but it was more like a bump. so i parked the car right thenand there, got out and said alot of stuff lol, he was like calm down bro, i thought i had more room..so i looked in the back of my car and there wasnt any visible damage so i was like ok fine, w.e...he asked me if i was cool, i said yea and i left. Was it cool for me to leave? or should i had done something? i never had this experience before...wat would u have done?

If there wasn't any damage, I probably would have been OK with it too. As he was pulling out of a parking spot, you had the right-of-way, so don't let him tell you it was your fault or anything.

No damage done let it go, but he could be at fault for not keeping a good breaking distance from your car.

Well, if he hit you from behind, he would most likely have been at fault. However, if you were in a parking lot and not on a regular road, that's sometimes harder to get police to ticket. If you looked at your vehicle and there wasn't any damage, and you weren't hurt, then I think you did the right thing.

For just a bump, I would not even have bothered to get out of the car.

I was driving a Jeep Cherokee when a D2500 Dodge pickup hit me from behind. I was stopped at a light and he was stopped behind me. His foot slipped off the brake and stabbed the gas pedal. He bumped me a pretty solid shot. I drove out of traffic and into a parking area. We got out, looked things over, found no discernibly damage and that's when I DID do just what you did. I look at it this way, I'm not hurt, the other driver is not hurt, there is no damage so what's the problem. I don't need an accident on my record any more than anyone else does, and I damn sure don't need an increase in my insurance rates.

As long as there is no injury and you are satisfied that your car is not hurt I think you did the right thing. IMO some people will make too much of something that could easily be considered insignificant.

I would have looked under bumber first but if its just something little and cheap no need to stay because insurence claim would end up costing you more in the long run

in the first place , you broke the law by cutting through the plaza. second place ....NEVER LEAVE THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT (NO MATTER HOW SMALL ) WITHOUT PHONE NUMBERS AND INSURANCE INFORMATION

By the law - you saw the dude coming and you failed to yield to his right of way. You were at fault, by assuming he was supposed to yield to you as you cut out in front of him.

If there is damages to his vehicle and wishes to challenge the matter - you left the scene without calling the police. So by the book - you would be in deep trouble.

After you bad mouthed the guy to his face I am wondering if he might want to press the matter - AND - he would be "legally" in his rights.

BUT WAIT! If he called the police like he was supposed to - then you could be in trouble for leaving the scene anyway and regardless of if he did not want you in trouble - by law - the cops could be looking for you right now.

Its always worse when you leave the scene of an accident than if you stayed. Even if it was your fault, by leaving you automatically make it worse.
