Car power restrictions for new drivers?

I agree strongly. I was seriously and permanently injured by a 16-year-old driving carelessly. Cars should have ratings and all drivers should be required to have a certain amount of experience before being allowed to drive cars of certain ratings.

It would be nice if all people would make wise decisions, but we all know they don't.

definately ... i think a lot of young drivers lose control coz their car is just too powerful

the point system for losing ur licence is less in the first 2 years so i don't see why this should be any different

They'll only red line it at every opportunity we have all seen the 50 cc bikes being revd to the limit .Like to see more use of P plate and perhaps a probationary period on new drivers plus make the pass plus scheme mandatory.

Not completely, Maybe staggered testing, so you do tests and extra training to be able to drive more powerful cars.

eg. first test lets you drive cars up to 100bhp.
test 2 lets you drive cars upto 200bhp etc.....
As it stands at the moment you can learn in a 1l corsa and as soon as you pass you have carte blanche to drive a ferrari. thats not on.
If the testing was introduced then it doesnt penalise responsable people for the sake of idiots who put my insurance premiums up.

Well, at least in the US..you would be hard pressed to find a one liter car!!. Around 50% of the units on the road..good or bad are SUV's and if our young driver did a dumb move, he or she would be crushed. Do you actually think that HP will limit speeds?? People die in crashes at 35 mph. Limit the upper speed...not really practical...If your proposal went through, now kids and families would have to buy two cars during the kids at home phase to suit this requirement. My kid got my older SUV for safety and was told you wreck it,, you walk. Parents need to be held responsible for their kids actions, but bleeding hearts and our court system will not allow that..

No - if your gong to give them driving privilege's then give them full privlage

You can't specify the amount of cubic inches for new drivers.

You would be limiting them to a foreign car only.
Not everyone loves them.

only in a country where there is no freedom and a dictator mandates such rules. I think that we humans haveing choice should choose to drive what they wish with thought in mind am I myself being responsible
