Ok here's the deal I was given a graco snugride car seat it's practically brand new (a friend's daughter recently out grew it). The problem is I drive an '02 mustang. It will not fit behind either seat on or off the base but it kinda fits in the middle. I can get the seat belt around the base and the latches in the back dash. Is this gonna be safe enough.

When I was installing my daughter's car seat, I bought a swimming noodle and made an appointment at my local fire department - they installed it for me and made sure the base fit properly. From all that I have read - the middle seat is always the safest, especially for rear-facing newborns... I would make an appointment with your local fire department to have them install it for you, then you can feel confident that it is safe! |

I would not risk it not fitting properly. Contact your local police-fire department business line (not 911) and see if they can help you out with an inspection, installation.
Also check this site as they have locations and contact information posted for inspections.

first thing, you shouldn't be using the latch hooks and the seat belt at the same time. The manual says not to do this. It causes to much stress on the seat and was not tested this way so it could possibly fail is you got in an accident. Take your seat and have it installed in your car by a SafeKids tech. They will fit it properly in your car. Go to
www.car-seat.org to find a tech in your area. These people are certified in car seat safety. |
